Senior and Principal Transport Engineers / Designers – Transport

We have a number of opportunities in our Transport Infrastructure business where you will work on some of New Zealand's key infrastructure projects.

Multiple roles due to growth. You can be based in Auckland, Hamilton and Wellington.

Provide technical leadership within the Transportation Design team for rail and civil engineering projects, focusing on cost-effective solutions.

Assist in the bidding, delivery, and management of medium to large-scale projects, while supporting targeted business development and marketing strategies.

Achieve successful outcomes aligned with our strategic priorities of high performance and client satisfaction through professional consulting services utilising Bentley OpenRoads, Autodesk Civil3D and Infraworks, and 12D as a design tool.

  • Take responsibility for the technical content and delivery of strategic projects.

  • Define and solve our client’s problems through design thinking and teamwork

  • Ensure that we always work to understand and match our clients’ expectations in the quality of services we provide

  • Promote best practice and technical excellence by applying sound technical review practices and taking a leading role in delivery of key or strategic projects across New Zealand

  • Lead the geometric design for assigned highway projects, ensuring appropriate technical reviews, verifications and Audits are completed according to WSP procedures

  • Produce designs, calculations, reports and drawings for a wide range of projects throughout the various stages of the project life cycle including scheme assessment, concept design, preliminary and detailed design, design reports.

  • Develop innovative and cost effective roading designs that are co-ordinated with the wider project disciplines

  • Ensure that the latest and most effective skills and tools are applied to projects and identify any areas for development and investment.

  • Deliver on time, within budget and to the required quality.

  • Help undertake verification activities and technical reviews of projects.

  • Understand the project brief and carry out engineering investigations, analysis, design and documentation according to the project brief.

  • Work effectively with the wider team to develop a centre of excellence for highways design within WSP

  • Keep an up-to-date working knowledge of relevant design techniques, technical standards and codes of practice.

WSP is working on a number of major infrastructure projects including the Roads of National Significance (RoNS) and Roads of Regional Significance (RoRS) across New Zealand such as:

  • Northern Corridor

  • O2NL

  • Mill Road

  • Whangaparoa Bus Station

  • Mt Vic Tunnel

  • Additional Waitemata Harbour Connections

  • Hope Bypass

About you:

  • Min. 8-15 years’ professional experience within the field of transportation infrastructure design delivery, and/or experience as design lead.

  • Chartered Professional membership EngNZ or appropriate professional bodies.

  • Proven ability and track record in managing multidisciplinary projects through the full spectrum of the project life cycle and delivering according to quality, time and budget requirements.

  • Demonstrated delivery within a collaborative contracting environment (e.g. D&C, ECI, NOC, Alliance, etc)

  • Experience in the resourcing and managing a wide range of professional disciplines and subcontractors on a complex project.

  • Extensive expertise in managing large scale project budgets with substantial work breakdown structures.

  • Previous experience managing complex changes on large scale projects.

  • Extensive experience in writing quality and credible complex reports and documents.

  • Proven experience in market winning work and delivering projects.
