Job Description

This Back Office Medical Assistant Float position supports a pediatric primary care practice by performing a wide range of clinical back-office duties, including phlebotomy and specimen collection, while floating between multiple office locations. The role focuses on delivering high-quality patient care to children up to 21 years of age, ensuring accurate clinical information, and supporting providers and staff in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform back-office medical assistant duties in a pediatric primary care setting, supporting providers and clinical staff across multiple locations.

  • Conduct phlebotomy and venipuncture procedures for patients of all ages within the pediatric practice, including newborns, children under 21.

  • Collect, label, and handle specimens accurately, following established protocols and universal precaution procedures to ensure patient safety and sample integrity.

  • Apply knowledge of basic medical terminology and laboratory quality control requirements to support accurate diagnostic testing and clinical workflows.

  • Use electronic clinical systems, including ECW (eClinicalWorks), to document patient information, procedures, and test-related data in an accurate and timely manner.

  • Communicate clearly and professionally with patients, families, and coworkers to provide compassionate care and maintain effective working relationships.

  • Assist with assessing urgent situations or emergencies in the clinical setting and act appropriately in accordance with training and practice protocols.

  • Follow all medical safety practices, including universal precautions and infection control procedures, to maintain a safe environment for patients and staff.

  • Collaborate with clinical and administrative team members to support efficient patient flow and a positive experience for patients and their families.

  • Float between assigned pediatric office locations as scheduled to provide consistent clinical support where needed.

Essential Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Medical Assistant diploma OR Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential OR at least 3 years of experience as a Medical Assistant (with job title reflecting Medical Assistant).

  • Active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

  • Demonstrated phlebotomy and venipuncture skills, including specimen collection.

  • Knowledge of laboratory quality control requirements.

  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology.

  • Knowledge of universal precaution procedures and medical safety practices.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and maintain positive working relationships with patients, coworkers, and the public.

  • Ability to assess emergencies and respond appropriately in a clinical setting.

  • Experience working as a Medical Assistant in a clinical or similar healthcare environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bilingual English–Spanish skills strongly preferred to better serve a diverse pediatric patient population.

  • 2Experience working in pediatric care or with patients from newborn through 21 years of age

  • Familiarity with ECW (eClinicalWorks) or similar electronic health record systems.

  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) or other Medical Assistant certification is beneficial.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with a compassionate and patient-centered approach.

  • Ability to adapt to different office environments and teams while floating between locations.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail when handling clinical information and specimens.

Work Environment

This is a permanent, full-time role based 100% onsite in a pediatric primary care office environment. The schedule is Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., plus every other Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., averaging approximately 42.5 hours in Week 1 and 46.5 hours in Week 2. The position primarily operates in a clinical back-office setting with direct patient interaction and involves working with pediatric patients and their families throughout the day. You will float between several pediatric practice locations in the region, including offices in Wellington, Boynton Beach (East and West), West Palm Beach, and Royal Palm Beach. The environment is fast-paced, team-oriented, and focused on high-quality, compassionate care for children. Standard clinical attire appropriate for a pediatric medical office is expected, and you will regularly use medical equipment for phlebotomy, specimen collection, and routine back-office procedures, as well as electronic health record systems such as ECW.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30000.00 - $35000.00/yr.
