Aspirus Wausau Hospital in Wausau, WI is seeking a HRPC PROGRAM MANAGER to join our ADMINISTRATION team!

The Human Research Protection & Compliance (HRPC) Program Manager reports to the Aspirus Wausau Hospital, Inc. (AWH) Chief Medical Officer (CMO), who is also the Institutional Official (IO) for the Institutional Review Board (IRB). The HRPC Program Manager requires vision, demonstrated leadership, and thorough understanding of federal, state, and local regulations, institutional policies and procedures, as well as ethical and professional standards pertaining to human research protection by the Institutional Review Board (IRB) and research compliance/quality. The HRPC Program Manager oversees the overall planning, direction, and execution of the IRB, including the development, implementation and oversight of daily operations of an effective Human Research Protection & Compliance Program for Aspirus Wausau Hospital, its majority-owned subsidiaries and regional affiliates as well as those that have a Memorandum of Understanding with Aspirus to be their institution’s IRB of record

The HRPC Program Manager has close contact with investigators, research staff, IRB Chairs, IRB members, government agencies and legal advisors to carry out the goals and objectives of a system-wide Human Research Protection & Compliance Program.

The position has oversight of the processes and systems related to the administration of the Institutional Review Board (IRB), along with Research Compliance & Quality.

HOURS: Full-Time or 1.0 FTE, 80 hours every 2 weeks.

Experience/Qualifications

  • Knowledge of healthcare standards and practices normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s degree in public health, nursing, business management/administration, ethics or related field.

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience with increasing responsibility in a human subjects protection program.

  • Minimum 5 years’ search management administration experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Experience in ensuring institutional federal compliance in a research environment.

  • Experience in a healthcare environment.

  • Certification as IRB Professional (CIP), Research Compliance (CHRC), or other appropriate certification recommended.

  • Possesses a high degree of independent judgment, decision-making and leadership skills.

  • Knowledge of federal, state and local regulatory requirements/guidelines related to the protection of human research subjects along with working knowledge of a significant body of scientific and medical concepts and terminology.

  • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and state laws governing privacy with the ability to maintain discretion and integrity in handling sensitive, confidential matters.

  • Demonstrates advanced level knowledge of practices, behaviors, applicable laws, rules, and regulations governing research conduct and the ability to demonstrate ethical and compliance behavior in diverse situations; understanding operational requirements relating to management and implementation of complex regulatory structures.

  • Completion of National Institutes of Health (NIH) training requirements for the protection of human subjects in research and institutional assurance.

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, supervise assigned staff, work closely and effectively with medical staff conducting research, Board members, chairpersons, senior leadership and federal regulatory agencies.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Familiarity with study design and statistical analysis.

  • Ability to write clear, concise reports, business correspondence and procedures.
