Job Title: Material Handler

Job Description

The Material Handler safely loads and unloads heavy metal parts, moves them throughout the production floor using sit-down forklifts, and prepares them for shipment. This role also involves rigging large parts, securing loads to trucks, and accurately documenting inventory and shipments in the computer system within a busy manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Load and unload heavy metal parts from trucks and other transport vehicles.

  • Operate sit-down forklifts to move large metal parts throughout different areas of the production floor.

  • Rig large parts safely and securely using appropriate equipment and procedures.

  • Secure large parts to trucks and trailers for safe and damage-free shipment.

  • Label parts accurately for shipment according to company standards and customer requirements.

  • Inspect parts for quality and damage prior to packaging and shipment.

  • Package parts securely to prevent damage during transportation.

  • Document inventory levels and outgoing shipments in the computer system with a high level of accuracy.

  • Follow all safety procedures and guidelines while operating forklifts, rigging equipment, and working around heavy machinery.

  • Maintain a clean and organized work area to support efficient material flow and safe operations.

Essential Skills

  • At least 2 years of experience operating sit-down forklifts with large parts.

  • Proven ability to safely handle, move, and position heavy metal parts.

  • Experience with material handling in a manufacturing or industrial environment.

  • Ability to accurately document inventory levels and shipments using a computer.

  • Strong attention to detail when labeling, inspecting, and packaging parts.

  • Commitment to following safety procedures when working with heavy loads and equipment.

  • Willingness to learn rigging and overhead crane operations if not already experienced.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience operating 10–20 ton overhead cranes is preferred.

  • Experience with rigging heavy parts is a plus.

  • Background in shipping, receiving, and general warehouse or material handling operations is beneficial.

  • Ability to work effectively in a large, fast-paced manufacturing environment.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work well with production and shipping teams.

Work Environment

This position is based in a large manufacturing facility on 2nd shift, typically from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. The work involves frequent interaction with heavy metal parts, forklifts, and overhead cranes in a busy production setting. Team members use computer systems to record inventory and shipments and work closely with production and shipping staff to keep materials moving efficiently. The environment requires adherence to safety protocols, including the use of steel-toed shoes and appropriate hearing protection. The pace is active and hands-on, with regular opportunities for overtime for those who choose to take on additional hours.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Waukesha, WI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $27.00/hr.
