The focus of the position will be to execute projects within UCCs Project Management and Contract Engineering (PMCE) teams. Primary responsibilities will include technically supporting contact execution activities within the power industry, utility and industrial markets, supporting balance of plant, and construction activities acting in the role of Project Engineer. The role will include vendor equipment selection, sales proposal support, field service/commissioning support, and customer interaction. The Project Engineer will have demonstrated capabilities in collaborating with others to perform engineering tasks within a team environment. The role will include onsite assignments for walk downs, customer meetings, construction meetings, etc.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated capabilities in collaborating with others to perform engineering tasks within a team environment. Work experience with a privately held company will be beneficial.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
The Project Engineer will:
- Independently lead the technical execution of assigned contracts; providing creative solutions to remove obstacles and solve execution difficulties.
- Lead Project Engineering activities including interface with customer, BOP and Construction subcontracts/partners, suppliers and other UCC departments to ensure contract deliverables are met.
- Achieve annual contract execution goals, including schedule, budget, and quality targets.
- Proactively work cross functionally with other UCC departments/functions to define and drive actions which maximize customer satisfaction, increase UCC profitability, and effectively meet common goals.
- Develop and coordinate engineering cost estimates to support sales proposal activities.
- Demonstrate UCCs core values.
- All other duties as assigned.
Reporting Relationship:
The Project Engineer reports to the Supervisor Systems Engineering. This position does not have any direct supervisory responsibilities.Chicagoland location is required.
Education and Experience:
- A Bachelor of Science in engineering is required (mechanical, chemical, or environmental)
- Professional Registration (PE License) is preferred
- A minimum of 7 to 10 years of engineering experience in engineering/technology based industrial/utility environments
- Broad experience covering contract execution disciplines with a proven track record of successes
- Technical leadership for complex projects that include balance of plant and construction scopes
- General business acumen

- Must be willing to travel 15-20% of the time to various work sites and suppliers
Essential Physical Abilities:
- Ability to sit or stand at a desk using a computer 80% of the time
- Ability to accommodate varying work schedules
- Ability to climb up and down stairs and ladders
- Ability to walk around power plants/job sites for extended periods
