Crops/Commodities: apples, blueberries, strawberries.
Duties: Take a leadership role in performing and teaching the following tasks: tree training, growing, pruning, thinning, cultivating, harvesting, etc. of all fruit and other crops grown. Apply crop protectants to all crops using proper procedures. Will be key member of harvesting team with emphasis on quality. Harvesting tasks may include but not limited to; supervision, quality control, loading, paperwork, and picking if necessary. Coordinate daily activities with Managers. Supervise team workers under the direction of Managers. Supervise equipment operators under the direction of Orchard Manager. Ensure all team workers have been properly trained and understand all duties including field work and health and safety procedures as appropriate. Assist team members in completing their time sheets correctly as necessary. Keep employee area neat and clean. Report all health and safety violations or major employee problems immediately to the Orchard Manager. Assist with special projects and tasks as requested. Show willingness to assist others when the unexpected occurs. Contribute ideas and suggestions to foster a team spirit for business efficiency and success. Be an active participant at farm staff meetings. Attend educational meetings as requested. Any other duties that may be deemed appropriate by management. Keep all safety equipment in proper supply and condition in all locations. Supervise the repair, supplies, storage and inventory of apple bins. Ensure that all equipment is in a constant state of readiness. Supervise under the direction of Orchard Manager, the operation of all equipment to ensure its safe and efficient use. Keep all equipment & tools clean and stored in their appropriate location daily Ensure all equipment operators have been properly trained and understand all duties including safety procedures as appropriate. Have an operating knowledge of all equipment on farm. Assist with equipment repairs under direction of Orchard Manager. Report any broken equipment or repair requests to Orchard Manager. Carpentry repairs on buildings and trellis support systems. Confer with managers to determine production requirements, conditions of equipment and supplies, and work schedules Confer with managers to evaluate weather or soil conditions, to develop plans or procedures, or to discuss issues such as changes in fertilizers, herbicides, or cultivating techniques.
Requirements: * Must have a minimum of 3 months verifiable experience working in a fruit farm. * Lifting requirement of 65 lbs. * Exposure to extreme temperatures, repetitive movements, and extensive pushing / pulling. * Extensive walking and frequent stooping/ bending over.
