Entomology Team Lead

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

You will lead and manage the operational efficiency of the insectary at the Waterman Site. This includes overseeing daily rearing activities, fostering team collaboration, and implementing innovative methods alongside digital tools to optimize processes. The role is essential for ensuring the health and productivity of insect populations, thereby supporting research initiatives and partnerships effectively.

The primary responsibilities of this role, Entomology Team Lead, are to:

  • Oversee and independent problem-solving expertise for an insectary facility aligning with and supplying partner teams with multiple species of primary insect pests (Lepidopteran, coleopteran and Hemipteran) for discovery screening, subsequent product development testing, and defense of product stewardship and durability;

  • Oversee local field efficacy testing support for product development in corn, soy, and cotton portfolios;

  • Align and support for Regulatory insect resistance monitoring stewardship programs;

  • Facilitate host responsibilities;

  • Manage annual and capital budget, program direction, facilities strategy, digitization and automation strategy, Operational Excellence, and safety culture;

  • Establish and maintain network to allow alignment with leadership and collaboration across functional teams;

  • Partner with Global Breeding team (on site), and agronomic technical teams to support field testing and provide technical expertise to growers;

  • Build and maintain local community relations to develop trust, enhance reputation, support recruiting, and build positive partnerships in the best interest of the business.

WHO YOU ARE

Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Entomology or related field;

  • People leadership and development experience;

  • Relevant experience rearing insects;

  • Understanding of insect resistance management;

  • Strong experience with field testing in row crops;

  • Experience managing an annual budget and capital across multiple projects;

  • Data fluency to collect, manage, and analyze insectary metrics and implement quality management system;

  • Experience with USDA and/or USEPA permits.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Entomology or related field; OR

  • Master’s degree in Entomology or related field with 5 years of relevant experience.

Relocation may be offered for this role.

Employees can expect to be paid a salary between $120,560.00 to $180,840.00 Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc. This salary range is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant’s location, market data/ranges, an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
