Job Description
The selected candidate will support the Ship Control Division (PMS 450S) within the Virginia Class Program Office. This division oversees the development, certification, sustainment, and modernization of the
Fly
By
Wire
Ship Control System for all Virginia Class submarines. In this role, you will work alongside senior government, military, and engineering personnel to learn and support system architecture, system safety, and programmatic oversight activities associated with submarine ship control.
This position is ideal for an engineer who has
a strong foundation
in systems engineering or electrical/aerospace engineering and is looking to build specialized
expertise
in
fly
by
wire
systems and Navy submarine programs.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Support system architecture, requirements interpretation, and engineering analysis for submarine Fly By Wire Ship Control System (SCS) capabilities
- Assist senior engineers with tracking system updates, certification activities, and technical reviews for hardware/software builds
- Develop, review, and maintain program documentation such as technical memos, status reports, engineering analyses, and configuration artifacts
- Participate in program meetings, design discussions, and technical working groups with NAVSEA, shipbuilders, and other stakeholders
- Learn and apply principles of system safety, algorithm assessment, configuration management, and test/certification procedures
- Conduct qualitative and quantitative analysis to support issue resolution and root cause investigations
- Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to gather data, track action items, and support program decision-making
- Contribute to long range planning for NEWCON and In S ervice Ship Control modernization efforts
Required Qualifications and Skills
Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related technical discipline
1-5 years of relevant engineering experience (internships and co
ops considered for strong candidates)
Foundational understanding of system architecture, system design principles, or control system fundamentals
Ability and desire to learn

by
wire
concepts, system certification processes, and Navy ship control system engineering
Strong analytical, communication, and organizational
