WSP USA Transit and Rail Engineering Intern- Summer 2026 in Washington, District Of Columbia

Our Washington, D.C transportation team is seeking a Temp, Full-Time, Technical Consultant Intern to work out of our Washington, D. C. office. This position is seeking currently enrolled Undergraduate/Master & PhD students.
This internship will be part of the WSP Summer Internship Program. As a summer intern, you have the opportunity to participate in our 12-week program scheduled to start on May 18th, 2026. The individual start date of the internship may be flexible.
Your Impact
Support a variety of engineering and engineering decision making tasks.
Learn basic principles of Transit Program Management which include workflow management
Assist in preparing comparative analysis of alternatives for technical management decision making
Support preparation of project scopes and cost estimates
Assist in collecting and maintaining project documentation
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs

Work is primarily located in the Washington, DC region and candidates should expect regular client or in-person office work
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
Actively enrolled in an accredited civil engineering, mechanical engineering, applied management science, applied econometrics, or related, Undergraduate program. OR Actively enrolled in an accredited in similar programs, or related, Masters or PhD program.
Demonstrated interest in civil or transportation infrastructure, or related field, and have a strong desire to advance skills related to WSP’s work and projects.
Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
Capable of taking direction from leadership, mentors, and managers to executive projects.
Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software (like MS teams, AutoCAD, micorstation), spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Authorization to work in the United States at the start of the internship.

Compensation:
Expected Salary: $19 - $30
WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location.
