Software Solutions Architect
Location: Washington, DC (onsite)
Clearance: Secret (Top Secret preferred)
Status: Exempt
Salary: $160,000.00 - $180,000.00
Position Overview
The Software Architect provides enterprise and solution architecture leadership in support of Department of Justice (DOJ) mission systems. This role is responsible for designing secure, scalable, and compliant software architectures that meet federal cybersecurity, data, and cloud modernization requirements. The architect works closely with government stakeholders, program managers, developers, cybersecurity personnel, and operations teams to ensure technical solutions align with DOJ IT strategy, Zero Trust principles, and federal mandates.
Key Responsibilities
Architecture & Technical Leadership
Design and document enterprise, system, and application architectures for DOJ mission and business systems
Define target state architectures, transition plans, and technical roadmaps
Lead architecture review boards (ARBs) and technical design sessions
Provide hands-on guidance to development teams on architecture patterns and best practices
Establish reference architectures, reusable components, and design standards
Cloud & Infrastructure Modernization
Architect solutions in AWS GovCloud, Azure Government, or on-prem environments
Lead cloud migration and modernization efforts (re-platform, refactor, containerization)
Design high availability, disaster recovery, and performance-optimized systems
Implement DevSecOps pipelines and infrastructure-as-code patterns
Cybersecurity & Compliance
Ensure architectures comply with:
DOJ Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs)
NIST SP 800-53 / RMF
Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA)
FISMA, FedRAMP, and DOJ policy requirements
Integrate ICAM, MFA, PKI, and role-based access controls
Support ATO packages, system security plans, and security assessments
Data & Integration
Design data architectures, APIs, and system integration patterns
Implement secure data exchange across DOJ and interagency systems
Define data governance, metadata, and audit logging strategies
Stakeholder Engagement
Translate mission needs into technical architectures and implementation plans
Advise government leadership on technology selection and trade-offs
Produce briefings, white papers, and architectural decision records (ADRs)
Required Qualifications
Active Secret clearance (TS preferred)
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred)
10+ years of software engineering and architecture experience
Demonstrated experience architecting secure federal systems
Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP – Gov environments preferred)
Strong knowledge of:
Microservices and service-oriented architectures
Containerization (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift)
API design and integration patterns
DevSecOps and CI/CD pipelines
Zero Trust and ICAM
Preferred Qualifications
TS clearance
Prior experience supporting DOJ, FBI, DEA, or other law enforcement systems
Experience with FedRAMP High environments
Enterprise Architecture frameworks (TOGAF, FEAF, DoDAF)
Relevant certifications, such as:
AWS/Azure Solutions Architect
CISSP
SAFe Architect or equivalent
