PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION

Act as a subject matter expert concerning business operations for a particular area. Perform high-level analysis and prepare comprehensive reports to support business operations. Conduct complex modeling, forecasting, trending, variance analysis, business case development, and other general financial and operational analysis. Monitor and coordinate activities to manage operational performance (e.g., safety, reliability, service level, productivity, etc.), make recommendations for improvement and implement change. Research and provide statistical financial and operational information. Track, maintain, analyze and provide current information on the operation's business scorecard or key performance indicators (KPIs). Develop, organize and present performance reports for both internal and external use. Develop and drive short-term and long-range business planning. Develop, implement, evaluate or lead projects or initiatives (e.g., business plan or process improvement initiatives). Provide expert analytical and operational support to the business unit. Position may be required to work extended hours for coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies.

Primary Duties

PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Develop and drive short-term and long-range business planning. Conduct complex modeling, forecasting, trending, variance analysis, business case development, and other financial and operational analysis (e.g., operational effectiveness, budget, resource, workload, workforce and capacity utilization, competitor, etc.). (35%)

  • Provide statistical information to ensure the most effective utilization of personnel, equipment and/or materials for business operations.

  • Monitor and coordinate activities to manage operational performance (e.g., safety, reliability, service level, productivity, etc.), make recommendations for improvement and implement change. (40%)

  • Track, maintain, analyze and provide current information on the operation's business scorecard or key performance indicators (KPIs).

  • Perform complex analysis of the operation's cost elements to ensure effective and efficient operations. (20%)

  • Prepare and analyze comprehensive and detailed reports.

  • Develop, organize and present detailed performance reports for both internal and external use.

  • Develop, implement, evaluate or lead projects or initiatives (e.g., business plan or process improvement initiatives).

  • Provide expert analytical and operational support to the business unit.

Job Scope

JOB SCOPE

  • This is an individual contributor position that works independently with little or no supervision. The position requires integration of business knowledge and functional priorities to address complex problems and non-standard situations. The position regularly mentors less experienced colleagues.

  • Position requires routine interaction with key internal and external stakeholders, executives, directors, managers and staff across the organization.

  • May require working extended hours and/or shift work to support business operations.

  • Proficiency in Power BI (data modeling, DAX, dashboard governance, executive‑ready visuals).

  • Advanced Excel skills (Power Query, Power Pivot, VBA macros preferred).

  • Ability to integrate data from multiple systems (work management, outage, finance, vendor, asset, HR).

  • Working knowledge of engineering operations, asset management, outage management, or system performance (enough to challenge assumptions and interpret trends).

  • Ability to analyze corrective actions, backlog health, aging conditions, and execution effectiveness—not just report metrics.

  • Familiarity with regulated utility or infrastructure environments strongly preferred. Experience applying quantitative techniques to evaluate performance trends, risk, and cost effectiveness.

  • Comfort working with incomplete or imperfect data and explaining limitations clearly to leadership.

  • Ability to measure “before vs. after” impact of initiatives (e.g., cost reduction, reliability, productivity).

  • Experience managing or supporting complex, cross‑functional programs with multiple stakeholders.

  • Ability to define governance structures, decision forums, escalation paths, and tracking mechanisms.

  • Strong understanding of how to move forums from “reporting” to “decision‑driven” execution.

  • Proven experience with O&M expenditure tracking, variance analysis, and cost trend identification.

  • Ability to partner with Finance to define cost categories, normalize data, and explain drivers.

  • Skilled in building business cases and cost‑benefit analyses to support leadership decisions.

  • Experience with work management, outage, asset, or financial systems (SAP, Maximo, PowerPlan, ADMS, OMS, or similar).

  • Ability to translate system data into executive‑level insights without requiring system experts in the room.

  • Working knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement principles.

  • Experience mapping workflows, identifying bottlenecks, and recommending sustainable improvements.

  • Strong capability in developing standardized templates (SITREPs, scorecards, dashboards).

  • Experience maintaining repositories for historical analysis, audits, and leadership reference.

  • Proven ability to serve as a trusted advisor to Directors and senior leaders.

  • Comfort challenging assumptions, surfacing risks, and recommending actions—not just presenting data.

  • Ability to distill complex technical and financial information into clear, concise executive narratives.

  • Experience preparing materials that roll up to senior leadership (VP COO level).

  • Skilled facilitator of cross‑functional discussions (engineering, operations, finance, programs).

  • Ability to drive alignment, resolve conflicts, and keep teams focused on outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • BA/BS in Business, Economics, Political Science, Public Policy or Engineering and 7-10 years related business experience.

  • Advanced understanding of applicable standards, methods, processes and practices, business fundamentals, and performance metrics in the specific functional area supported by this position (e.g., asset management, electric or gas operations, customer service, transmission and substation, distribution system operations, regulatory , and governmental and external affairs, economic development transmission operations and planning).

  • Advanced proficiency in standard software applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Project), specialized business technologies and applications (e.g., workforce management, project management, PassPort, Brio, CIS, EPS, Business Objects, SAP planning, business modeling, forecasting, voice response unit, automatic call distributors, work management, outage management) to retrieve and analyze data in support of business needs.

  • Ability to provide in-depth analysis and apply managerial accounting concepts, customer intelligence gathering, forecasting, staff planning, scheduling, analytical and statistical problem solving, financial, accounting, business and budget analysis.

  • Expert analytical skills for project evaluation including analysis of complex projects with economic, financial, risk and decision analysis. Proficient in business case development and ability to effectively present business cases to business unit leadership.

  • Advanced knowledge of the practices, procedures and principles of performance analysis (trending, root cause and gap analysis) benchmarking and audit compliance. Ability to analyze organizational data and complex problems, interpret and recommend alternative courses of action, and implement intervention strategies to attain performance targets.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead a cross-functional team. Ability to build consensus, establish trust, communicate effectively and foster culture change. Demonstrated advanced skills in problem solving, negotiation, conflict management and business acumen.

  • Customer driven with good oral and written communications skills and basic analytical, problem solving and project management skills.

  • In lieu of degree, 9-12 years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Analytics, Finance, Economics, or a quantitative discipline.

  • Master’s degree (MBA, MS Engineering, Data Analytics) strongly preferred for principal roles.

  • Certifications that add credibility PMP PgMP Lean Six Sigma (Green or Black Belt)

  • Advanced Power BI Data Analytics certifications

  • Demonstrated experience developing and managing executive‑level operational reporting (e.g., SITREPs), including standardization, synthesis, and trend analysis.

  • Strong working knowledge of O&M expenditure tracking, variance analysis, and cost trend reporting, with experience partnering with Finance and business leaders.

  • Ability to translate complex operational and financial data into concise executive summaries and decision‑ready insights.

  • Proven experience leading or facilitating cross‑functional O&M cost‑reduction initiatives.

  • Skilled in developing business cases and cost‑benefit analyses to support investment and cost‑reduction decisions.

  • Familiarity with vendor performance evaluation and supporting vendor negotiations or capability discussions.

  • Experience defining KPIs, tracking departmental performance, and measuring the effectiveness of corrective actions.

  • Strong background in process improvement, workflow analysis, and operational efficiency initiatives.

  • Proficiency in Power BI and Excel for dashboard development, data visualization, and performance reporting.

  • Experience serving as a trusted advisor to senior leaders, providing data‑driven recommendations to support strategic and operational decisions.

  • Ability to research best practices and translate them into actionable improvements within a regulated or operational environment.

  • Experience supporting workforce planning, vacancy tracking, onboarding, training needs assessment, and employee engagement initiatives.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present findings clearly to executives and cross‑functional stakeholders.

  • Proven ability to facilitate meetings and forums (e.g., readiness reviews, operational reviews) focused on decisions, priorities, and lessons learned.

  • Strong stakeholder management skills, fostering collaboration across engineering, operations, finance, and program teams.

  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities independently in a fast‑paced environment.

  • High attention to detail, accountability, and follow‑through.

  • Annual salary will vary based on a candidate’s skills, qualifications, experience, and other factors: $98,400.00/Yr. – $135,300.00/Yr.
