This position is part of the Responsibilities Operates propane/electric powered high lift fork trucks having a load capacity of up to 4,000 pounds. Collects hazardous waste solvents and materials throughout the agency and assists in the cleanup. Checks property and/or part number, nomenclature, quantity, and condition of materials with documentation. Verifies distribution amounts, weights, and quantities using calibrating scales. Uses basic instruments to measure and verify the process consistency of manufactured products. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications To qualify for the position, you must meet the following requirements: Applicants must have experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to independently perform the duties typically required of a PPW (Material Processor/ Handler). These duties require skill in: 1) Performing a wide variety of materials handling duties, including operating a forklift to load, unload, and move packages and palletized material, including secure production materials.2) Handling hazardous materials in a safe manner for storing and movement of materials to ensure that all regulatory and safety requirements are met, and 3) Following written formulas to select, weigh, and add ingredients in the form of liquids and powders to manufacture or modify adhesives and inks for use. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement to be considered. To meet those standards, all selected applicants must undergo and successfully completed a background investigation for a suitability clearance . Depending on the type of background investigation required, the security process may take between 6 weeks to 12 months. Stand on hard surfaces for extended periods of time, and to bend, stoop, and work in tiring and sometimes uncomfortable positions. The incumbent is required to do considerable walking, standing, stooping, bending, pushing, lifting and carrying and stacking above shoulder equipment or material up to 75 pounds. Some aspects of the work involve strenuous physical exertion. The work requires frequent handling of materials in drums and on skids/pallets. Frequent standing, reaching, bending, and lifting at the shoulder level is required to perform assignments. The heavier items are moved with material handling equipment or with assistance from another worker. Work Environment: Most work is performed indoors on concrete floors where there is continual exposure to dirt, dust grease, and odors. Some of the work is performed outdoors where the incumbent is exposed to variances in weather and temperature conditions. Protective clothing includes steel-toed safety shoes, gloves, aprons or Tyvek, and safety glasses or goggles. The selectee will work Shift 1, 7:30 AM-4:00 PM.
