Phlebotomist-Float DC/ MD

Job Description

The primary role of a Phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting issues, providing training, and making workflow recommendations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance data.

  • Decontaminate and update patient information as required.

  • Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.

  • Explain the process of venipuncture, blood drawing, and other specimen collection such as urine or fecal in a clear and courteous manner.

  • Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.

  • Understand all physician orders and match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.

  • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by the test order.

  • Ensure accuracy by checking all test requisitions or computer labels against the script.

  • Package specimens for transport and store them at the required temperature.

  • Place samples in appropriate collection containers, accurately label them, and follow procedures to maintain specimen integrity during transport.

  • Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.

  • Attend annual department trainings.

  • Answer telephone calls and provide laboratory results to inquiries.

Essential Skills

  • Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment.

  • Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • 0-2 years of experience.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Ability to float between DC and MD.

Work Environment

The role requires working in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting, involving frequent specimen collection and interaction with patients. The position also requires compliance with OSHA and DEP regulations, as well as attendance at annual department trainings.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Washington, DC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.50 - $21.50/hr.
