Noblis Operations Environmental Specialist in Washington, District Of Columbia

Responsibilities

Overview

We are seeking a knowledgeable  Operations Envi ronment al Specialist  to provide expert guidance on the environmental impacts of aircraft operations within the  National Airspace System (NAS) . This position supports FAA initiatives by performing and reviewing environmental assessments, evaluations, and analyses to ensure operational compliance with environmental standards, safety regulations, and airspace efficiency requirements.

The ideal candidate combines aviation operational expertise with a strong understanding of environmental policies, regulatory requirements, and analytical methods to assess and mitigate the effects of aircraft operations on the surrounding environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct and review  envi ronment al assessments and evaluations  related to instrument flight procedures, airspace design, obstruction analyses, and navigation aid operations.

  • Advise FAA leadership and operational teams on  envi ronment al impacts  associated with aircraft operations and related aviation projects.

  • Evaluate the environmental implications of  air carrier operations approvals  and provide recommendations to support FAA decision-making.

  • Assess impacts on  historic land, structures, and protected areas  in coordination with relevant federal and state authorities.

  • Collaborate with FAA engineers, planners, and operations specialists to integrate  envi ronment al considerations into airspace design and procedural development.

  • Ensure compliance with  federal, state, and local envi ronment al regulations  and FAA policies.

  • Prepare technical  reports, analyses, and documentation  summarizing environmental findings, recommendations, and mitigation strategies.

  • Support internal and external stakeholder briefings on environmental aspects of aviation operations and NAS improvements.

Required Qualifications

  • U.S Citizen or Green Card Permanent Resident (3+ years U.S. Residency)

  • Ability to obtain FAA Public Trust.

  • Experience with FAA and the environment.

  • Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in  Envi ronment al Science , Aviation Management, Engineering, or a related field , with  6+ years  of experience performing the duties described above.

  • OR  equivalent professional experience with  10+ years  of demonstratedexpertise in environmental assessment and analysis for aviation operations.

  • Knowledge of  aircraft operations, instrument procedures, and NAS operations .

  • Experience performing  envi ronment al assessments, airspace analysis, and obstruction evaluations .

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and technical writing skills to document and communicate environmental findings.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders.

Salary Range D.C.: $86,800 - $135,625

  • Experience supporting  FAA programs , particularly within  air traffic, flight procedures, or operations planning .

  • Familiarity with  envi ronment al regulations, NEPA processes, and historic preservation considerations  in aviation contexts.

  • Experience preparing  technical envi ronment al reports, evaluations, or briefings  for federal aviation projects.

  • Knowledge of  airspace design, navigation aids, and procedural approvals .

Compensation at Noblis is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the combination of education, certifications, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, internal and external equity, location, clearance level, as well as contract-specific affordability, organizational requirements and applicable employment laws. The projected compensation range for this position is based on full time status. For part time or on-call staff, compensation is proportionately adjusted based on hours worked. While monetary compensation is important, it's just one component of Noblis’ total compensation package.
