Associate Dean for Academic Operations | McDonough School of Business - Georgetown University

The Associate Dean for Academic Operations oversees a number of academic systems at the McDonough School of Business (MSB), including course scheduling, registration, academic space, curriculum implementation, academic calendars, degree clearance, and course evaluation. This position oversees registration for all MSB degree and non-degree programs, including add/drop, wait lists, batch registration, and self-service registration

The Associate Dean is responsible for course scheduling for all degree programs at MSB, including undergraduate, graduate, and executive programs (total enrollment of approximately 3300 students per year). The candidate assesses program course needs and faculty resources across the school in order to optimize student experience, faculty workload, and building usage. S/he also strategically examines the curriculum for all programs, proposes changes and adjustments, and leads the implementation of changes.

Additional duties include but are not limited to:

  • Support the Vice Dean in strategic planning and implementation projects related to cross-campus cooperation and negotiation, faculty resources, academic programs, enrollment management, and planning.

  • Efficiently manage the course selection and registration process for all MSB students. This includes batch registration for cohorts, the self-service process for undergraduates and some graduate populations, add/drop and waitlists.

  • Represent the Office of the Vice Dean on committees and task forces related to curriculum, course planning, and registration, both University-wide and within MSB.

  • Partner with the Office of Assessment and Decision Support to oversee course evaluations for all MSB courses. Provide analysis of evaluation data as need and access to data for area chairs and other decision makers at MSB

  • Create academic calendars and corresponding refund schedules for all MSB graduate and executive programs (7+ unique calendars) with attention to the student experience, deployment of faculty resources across multiple programs with different calendars, optimization of academic space, and ease of compliance with federal regulations. Work with program offices, Office of the Registrar, and Office of Student Financial Assistance to balance program flexibility and structure.

  • Lead the creation of the portfolio of MSB course offerings in conjunction with program offices, faculty Area Chairs (ACs), and curriculum committees.

  • Manage two direct reports: the Director of Academic Planning & Analytics and the Assistant Director of Academic Operations.

    Work Interactions

    The Associate Dean for Academic Operations reports to the Vice Dean of Programs and Student Experience as part of the Office of the Vice Dean of the McDonough School of Business. This position is supported by two direct reports, the Director of Academic Planning & Analytics and the Assistant Director of Academic Operations. The Associate Dean is broadly connected across the School and University, serving as a liaison to the Office of the Registrar, the Office of Student Accounts, and the Office of Student Financial Services. S/he represents MSB on committees and works related to registration, course management, faculty evaluation, and enrollment management. Within MSB, the Associate Dean serves in an ex officio capacity on the Undergraduate and Graduate Curriculum and Standards Committees, with responsibility for implementing committee actions and representing the Office of the Vice Dean.

    Requirements and Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree required

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in academic administration, including mid to high-level management and supervisory experience, academic scheduling, registration systems, academic advising, curriculum, and program management.

  • Strong interpersonal skills are required, including the ability to interact effectively with faculty and students.

  • Computer proficiency is a must, including registration systems, databases, and analysis tools such as MS Excel.

    Pay Range:

    The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:

$80,429.00 - $157,238.93

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
