The Plumbing Engineer will design, engineer, and oversee the installation of plumbing and fire protection systems for commercial, institutional, industrial, and government facilities. This role combines hands-on design work in AutoCAD and Revit with field surveys, construction oversight, and close collaboration with architects, contractors, vendors, and multidisciplinary engineering teams. The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise, proven project experience, and the ability to mentor junior team members while delivering high-quality, code-compliant solutions that meet client expectations and project deadlines.
Responsibilities
Design and engineer plumbing and fire protection systems for commercial, institutional, industrial, and government facilities in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and best practices.
Conduct field surveys and assessments to evaluate existing plumbing and fire protection systems and gather data to inform design decisions.
Collaborate with architects, contractors, and other project stakeholders to develop design specifications and ensure that project deliverables meet quality standards and client expectations.
Prepare technical documentation, including specifications, new work plans, demolition plans, riser diagrams, schedules, and detailed drawings using AutoCAD and Revit.
Perform design calculations to verify system performance, capacity, and accuracy, and incorporate findings into design documents.
Review project budgets and timelines and recommend cost-effective and feasible design alternatives and implementation strategies.
Provide technical guidance, leadership, and mentorship to junior engineers and other team members throughout the project lifecycle.
Conduct on-site inspections and oversee the construction and installation of plumbing and fire protection systems to verify compliance with engineering standards, design intent, and industry practices.
Coordinate with other in-house engineering disciplines, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection, to ensure fully integrated building systems.
Work with vendors on equipment specifications and selections, ensuring compatibility with project requirements and design standards.
Prepare clear and concise reports and presentations for project stakeholders, including internal leadership and clients.
Use AutoCAD and Revit to design plumbing and fire protection systems and to set up new projects for the engineering team.
Utilize Microsoft 365 tools, including Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Outlook, to support documentation, collaboration, and presentations.
Stay current with new technologies, industry trends, and best practices, and participate in industry associations and events to maintain professional connections.
Work independently and as part of a team to deliver high-quality work, manage multiple assignments, and meet project deadlines.
Travel as required for project execution, including site surveys, punch-list activities, and field observations during construction.
Demonstrate strong leadership, communication, and computer skills in daily interactions with colleagues, clients, and project partners.
Essential Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field preferred, with equivalent experience considered.
5–7 years of professional experience in an engineering role, ideally focused on plumbing and fire protection systems.
Proven experience in plumbing design and fire protection engineering for building projects.
Strong understanding of construction documents, particularly MEP/FP drawings and specifications.
Solid understanding of building systems and their integration, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection.
Proficiency in AutoCAD for the preparation of plans, details, and technical drawings.
Proficiency in Revit for modeling and coordinating plumbing and fire protection systems.
Experience with Bluebeam for reviewing, marking up, and collaborating on drawings and documents.
Proficiency with Microsoft 365 tools, including Teams, SharePoint, Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to interpret technical data and apply engineering judgment.
Ability to multitask, prioritize work, and manage time efficiently in a deadline-driven environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective interaction with clients, colleagues, and project partners.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to mentor and guide junior team members.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy in design, documentation, and project coordination.
Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment while maintaining quality and professionalism.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline is preferred.
Experience working on commercial, institutional, industrial, and government facility projects.
Familiarity with current plumbing and fire protection codes, standards, and industry best practices.
Interest in staying up to date with new technologies and trends in plumbing and fire protection design.
Willingness to learn, adapt, and incorporate new tools and methods into daily work.
Active participation or interest in industry associations and professional events.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective working relationships with architects, contractors, vendors, and internal teams.
Work Environment
This role operates in a hybrid work environment, with a mix of in-office and remote work, including a designated remote day each week. The office culture emphasizes collaboration, professional growth, and long-term tenure, supported by a strong pipeline of projects and ongoing expansion of the local office. Work involves a combination of desk-based design and documentation using tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, and the Microsoft 365 suite, along with periodic visits to project sites for surveys, inspections, and field observations during construction. The environment is fast-paced and project-driven, with a focus on delivering high-quality engineering solutions while supporting teamwork, open communication, and continuous learning.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $90000.00/yr.
