Actalent Robotics Simulation Engineer in Warren, Michigan

Robotic Simulation Engineer

Location: Warren MI

Role Summary

This role is about building realistic virtual factories where robots can learn and practice before being deployed in the real world.

As a Robotic Simulation Engineer, you will create high‑fidelity digital environments that replicate complex manufacturing settings. These virtual worlds allow robots to safely learn how to see, move, and manipulate objects—reducing cost, risk, and development time on the factory floor.

Rather than training robots only in physical plants, your work enables teams to test and improve robotic behavior in simulation first. The virtual data you create helps power advanced robot “brains” used for perception, planning, and manipulation, ensuring robots perform reliably when deployed in production environments.

You will work closely with robotics and AI teams to ensure simulations reflect real manufacturing conditions and produce high‑quality training data that accelerates automation and manufacturing innovation.

About the Team

You will be part of the Manufacturing Technology Development (MTD) organization, collaborating with robotics engineers, AI/ML scientists, and manufacturing specialists to advance next‑generation robotic systems used across facilities.

Key ResponsibilitiesSimulation & Virtual Environment Development

  • Build and customize high‑fidelity simulation scenes using NVIDIA Isaac Sim that accurately represent real‑world robotic tasks and factory layouts

  • Model complex manufacturing environments, assets, and robotic interactions with a strong emphasis on realism and scalability

Synthetic Data Generation

  • Develop synthetic data pipelines to generate large‑scale, diverse datasets for robot training and validation

  • Implement randomized object placement, lighting, and environmental variability to improve model robustness

  • Generate and annotate multi‑modal data, including:

  • RGB images

  • Depth data

  • Semantic and instance segmentation

  • Point clouds

Data Workflows & Quality

  • Implement and maintain data processing workflows that ensure data quality, traceability, versioning, and compatibility with ML training pipelines

  • Support reproducible experiments and scalable simulation‑to‑training handoffs

Performance & Realism Optimization

  • Optimize simulation performance, physics accuracy, and visual fidelity

  • Tune physics parameters, collision models, asset fidelity, sensor models, and rendering configurations for scalable experimentation

Cross‑Functional Collaboration

  • Partner closely with robotics engineers and ML scientists to align simulation outputs with perception, planning, and manipulation model requirements

  • Support sim‑to‑real transfer, ensuring models trained in simulation perform reliably in real manufacturing environments

Testing, Iteration & Documentation

  • Conduct hands‑on testing and debugging of simulation setups and synthetic data strategies

  • Iteratively refine environments and data pipelines to improve model robustness

  • Document workflows, tools, and best practices to enable team‑wide knowledge sharing and reproducibility

Required Technical Skills & Experience

  • Strong hands‑on experience building high‑fidelity robotic simulation environments

  • Experience using NVIDIA Isaac Sim

  • Proven ability to design synthetic data generation pipelines for training robotic or AI systems

  • Experience with simulation performance optimization and physics‑based modeling

  • Strong collaboration skills with robotics and machine learning teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with robotics frameworks such as:

  • ROS / ROS2

  • MoveIt

  • Nav2

  • Experience with robotics simulation platforms such as:

  • Isaac Sim
