BODY CONTROLS CALIBRATION ENGINEER / TEST SPECIALIST ENGINEER
7th / 6th Level Calibration Engineer
At General Motors, we are looking for a hard-working BODY CONTROLS CALIBRATION ENGINEER / TEST SPECIALIST ENGINEER who enjoys tak ing on challenges and following through with robust solutions to jo in our Body Control Calibration and test team! Calibration and test engineers work with vehicles, software, and algorithms to design and release Body Control Module (BCM)/External Lighting Module (ELM) calibrations to meet customer designs and performance requirements. They support the lead calibrator and software strategist, as well as stakeholders including the members of the vehicle platform, hardware, manufacturing plant and quality team. This is a critical role that ensures the integration to vehicles performs at world class levels to meet program objectives and industry regulations.
The Opportunity:
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing technical complexity, program scope, and program breadth combine to execute calibration deliverables on time with quality. You will be the person that works collaboratively and cross functionally to ensure correct and robust calibrations are released on time every time. Span of control will include work on multiple body domain features and functions, multiple product lines (Gas, Diesel, Electrification, Hybrid), systems that are subject to regulatory compliance (ex FMVSS/CMVSS, etc.) and collaboration with key global development teams.
Work Arrangement:
Hybrid: Position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time but the general expectation is that the employee be onsite an average of three (3) days each week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday) and depending on the location needed for the role.
Some travel may be required, primarily to Michigan/Ontario and other locations in the US and Canada.
Job Responsibilities:
Follow best practices and procedures to calibrate and test systems to meet product goals, and provide feedback for continuous improvement
Develop Body Controls Configuration/Performance Calibrations for deployment to GM Vehicle Programs
Investigate and research calibration settings based on CALBOM notes.
Help train new calibration engineers on calibration and test processes.
Support Calibration Reviews with other Calibration Engineers, Software Strategists, and Calibration Technical Specialists.
Support CG testing requirements with test engineers.
Support root cause analysis.
Lead troubleshooting activities for complex system issues across programs
Identify and document calibration vulnerabilities and build mitigation action plans; track corrective actions.
Attend software VSE meetings and report back required timing.
Keep abreast of industry trends, technologies, and best practices.
Adhere to all safety requirements, treat safety as the top priority and lead by example during all work activities.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related Engineering degree.
Minimum of 2 years of technical and/or manufacturing engineering experience.
Experience with data acquisition and analysis on complex problems (CALBOM)
Tools: INCA, Vspy (Vehicle Spy)
Experience with Wiring Schematics
Knowledge of vehicle systems
Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of mechanical/electrical mechanisms
experience motivating others, can manage multiple projects and deadlines, and has experience with several vehicle systems/component domains.
Valid driver’s license and ability to operate test vehicles.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master of Science in Engineering
3+ years of experience with in-vehicle testing and calibration, including use of tools (ETAS/INCA, Intrepid/VSPY, etc.) for data acquisition and analysis
Project Management Experience
DRE Experience (software & calibration releases)
Experience leading or giving direction to others.
Experience with scripting (Matlab, Python, etc.) to support automation and making processes more efficient.
Simulink Autocode and C hand code
Knowledge of control theory and model-based design.
Automotive OEM experience.
