Actalent Laboratory Technician – Battery Cell Operations in Warren, Michigan

Job Title

Battery Laboratory / Manufacturing Technician

Position Overview

This role supports battery cell manufacturing and testing operations within a controlled cleanroom environment. The technician will perform hands‑on equipment operation, chemical handling, testing, data collection, and preventive maintenance activities while collaborating closely with engineering, maintenance, and cross‑shift teams.

Key ResponsibilitiesEquipment & Process Operations

  • Perform equipment setup, operation, cleaning, testing, and in‑process checks to ensure consistent and reliable functionality.

  • Work in a controlled cleanroom environment, following gowning and PPE requirements at all times.

  • Mix chemicals (liquids, powders, and gases) according to defined recipes and process instructions.

  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and required equipment cleaning.

  • Observe equipment functionality and troubleshoot basic mechanical, chemical, or electrical issues as they arise.

  • Properly dispose of chemical and material waste in accordance with safety and environmental procedures.

Data, Documentation & Continuous Improvement

  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, test results, and process data.

  • Analyze collected data and report findings to engineering and leadership.

  • Recommend and support revisions to lab and manufacturing processes.

  • Document best practices in battery cell manufacturing through standardized work instructions.

  • Use data‑driven corrective actions to improve quality, efficiency, and safety.

  • Identify and eliminate operational waste using Lean manufacturing tools.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Coordinate and exchange findings with engineering personnel outside the immediate work group.

  • Coordinate test, build, and preventive maintenance activities with stakeholders and support teams to ensure on‑time completion.

  • Vet incoming work requests to confirm equipment, materials, and hardware resources are available.

  • Actively participate in team and group Business Plan Deployment (BPD) meetings.

  • Utilize Job Instruction Training (JIT) processes to support skill development across the work group.

Safety & Housekeeping

  • Maintain strong housekeeping standards and safe work practices.

  • Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of materials and supplies.

  • Cleanroom laboratory and manufacturing environment

  • Hands‑on, highly process‑driven role

  • On‑site position (no remote work)

  • Must be willing to work any shift

Required QualificationsEducation & Experience

  • Associate degree (2‑year) in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Chemical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related technical field

  • OR equivalent hands‑on experience

  • 2+ years of experience in a laboratory, testing, manufacturing, or cleanroom environment

Technical Skills

  • Working knowledge of mechanical, chemical, and/or electrical systems

  • Experience operating and maintaining laboratory or manufacturing equipment

  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, process documentation, and work instructions

  • Proficiency with computer applications used for data collection, documentation, and reporting

Professional Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills for moderately complex issues

  • Effective oral and written communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in an inclusive, team‑based environment

  • Flexibility and willingness to support any shift as required

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Warren, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $26.00/hr.
