Variety FoodServices Assistant Supervisor – Catering & Food Production Operations in Warren, Michigan

Job Summary

We're looking for a Food Production & Catering Assistant Supervisor who thrives in a fast-paced kitchen and loves bringing great food to life --- from daily production to high-profile catering events. This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll work alongside the team, help drive quality and efficiency, and play a key role in executing catering events from start to finish.

The ideal candidate has experience in catering or large-scale food production, enjoys leading and coaching teams, and has a strong understanding of menu development, food costing, portion control, and food safety. Experience in K-12 food service is a plus, but not required.

This role requires flexibility, including occasional weekends for events and potential rotating Sundays to support food production leadership.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Support Production Manager

Hands on daily food production, working alongside the team and continuously audit team output to ensure quality and efficiency

  • Set time goals for team each day based on varying daily workload. Track team progress and audit quality
  • Navigate company systems to process & print all paperwork needed: order counts, labels, recipes, etc
  • Fulfill all daily orders timely with accurate recipe adherence
  • Daily audits of operational quality and documentation
  • Weekly documented employee safety audits & specialized safety trainings
  • Step in for Production Supervisor if absent/preform all duties needed for uninterrupted/consistent production.
  • Support monthly inventory process

Lead All Catering Events Food Production Operations

  • Ensure successful execution & process adherence for each catering (Client order request, pricing w/proper portion control, event detail recording, labor planning, food preparation planning & execution, delivery, client feedback)
  • Maintain inventory of all needed ingredients, packaging, supplies, etc and reorder as needed
  • Ensure food safety and sanitation and all company protocols and ServSafe guidelines are followed

Menu Development

  • Develop recipes for Grab and Go Fresh Food and Catering menus, support menu development for schools/Head-start and Institutions.
  • Create standardized recipes, shop vendors, ensure portion vs. cost
  • Drive continuous improvements and innovations

General Duties

  • Understand & Demonstrate correct techniques for washing, peeling, cutting and use of various kitchen equipment including loading and unloading ovens.
  • Understand food portioning, handling, food prep, etc
  • Ensure food safety and sanitation and all company protocols and ServSafe guidelines are followed
  • Support with employee training/coach and council/hold staff accountable when needed. Praise/reward success.
  • Produce, monitor and enforce weekly employee work and break schedules
  • Ensure no food is out of refrigerated/frozen environment longer than 2 hours.
  • Daily walkthroughs of all coolers/freezers/warehouse to ensure proper labeling, storage, product quality, etc.
  • Conduct weekly documented food safety & quality audits.

Qualifications

Degree in Hospitality or Culinary Arts or a minimum of 3+ year's supervisory experience in a similar fast-paced, complex food production environments culinary production environment.

Team leadership & training experience

Comfortable working on feet for prolonged periods

Excellent customer service abilities

Menu & recipe planning experience, ability to create detailed costs of items/recipes
