*JOB DUTIES: *Handling manual tasks associated with commodity production and harvest activities. Crops/Commodities: Crops Grown: Hay, Alfalfa. Primary duties (performed the majority of workdays): Plant, cultivate, and harvest hay and alfalfa. Operate farm vehicles and agricultural equipment. Use hand tools, such as shovels, trowels, hoes, tampers, pruning hooks, shears, and knives. Duties may include tilling soil; applying fertilizers and pesticides; combining chemicals; weeding, thinning, or pruning crops; loading and unloading harvested products. Repair and maintain fences and farm buildings. Participate in irrigation activities. As a minor activity, attend to livestock and chickens. Duties may include feeding, watering, herding, dehorning, weighing, catching, and loading animals. Transport feed for livestock. May maintain records on animals; examine animals to detect diseases and injuries; assist in birth deliveries; and administer medications, vaccinations, or insecticides as appropriate. May clean and maintain animal housing areas. Haul agricultural commodities including manure and crops. As a minor activity, assist with minor repairs and maintenance on agricultural equipment. Clean and maintain fields, work areas and grounds. Clean and sanitize equipment. Allergies to ragweed, goldenrod, honey bees, wasp, insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, or related chemicals may affect a worker's ability to perform the job.
