This role serves as a bridge between clinical expertise, technical structure, and informatics needs, ensuring that all CDS decision pathways are accurate, clinically sound, logically consistent, and ready for downstream conversion into executable CDS tools.

The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented physician with strong clinical reasoning skills and the ability to translate narrative medical content into precise decision logic, branching structures, and associated clinical actions (e.g., orders, instructions). • Program associated logic, clinical text, branching conditions, action steps, and order sets.

  • Ensure that decision trees are internally coherent, clinically safe, and aligned with intended workflows.

Quality Review & Clinical Reasoning

  • Apply clinical knowledge during programming to identify errors, inconsistencies, or logic gaps.

  • Flag content or reasoning issues to Deputy Editors and collaborate on resolving them.

  • Verify that structured content accurately reflects the source clinical evidence and editorial intent.

Cross-Functional Software Support‑Functional Software Support

  • Report issues, bugs, or usability challenges with the proprietary authoring software.

  • Collaborate with engineering teams by reproducing issues, reviewing fixes, and validating improvements.

  • Provide structured feedback to help guide tool enhancements.

Process Improvement & Automation Initiatives

  • Participate in efforts to streamline editorial workflows, improve content production, and support scalability.

  • Engage in projects exploring automation, including the use of AI tooling under editorial supervision.

  • Suggest improvements to templates, authoring workflows, and quality assurance approaches.

Content Creation (As Assigned)

  • Assist in updates or maintenance for CDS content across products, including UpToDate Pathways.

Required Qualifications

  • Medical degree (MD or DO) with clinical experience.

  • Strong ability to think logically and model clinical decisions in structured formats.

  • High attention to detail and commitment to patient‑safety-focused content.

  • Comfort working with proprietary software tools and willingness to learn new systems.

  • Ability to identify clinical or logical errors and communicate them clearly.

  • Collaborative mindset and strong communication skills.

  • Experience troubleshooting or working with product/engineering teams.

  • Exposure to medical editing or structured content development.

Key Attributes for Success
