The General Manager, Conjugation Business is responsible for leading Abcam’s flow cytometry and conjugation growth agenda, including taking overall accountability for the delivery of the RUO Flow Reagent GCV, a breakthrough, cross-operating-company program critical to Danaher’s future growth.
They will own the end‑to‑end business and product strategy for conjugation at Abcam and, together with Beckman Coulter Life Sciences (BECLS), create and manage a portfolio of products serving the research‑use‑only flow cytometry market.
This role combines enterprise-level innovation leadership with business ownership, operating at the intersection of strategy, technology, customer value, and execution. The role offers the opportunity to lead a global, cross-operating-company, multi‑site project, with activities at Abcam’s Cambridge (UK) and Hangzhou (China) sites, and frequent interaction with BECLS teams in Miami (US) and Bangalore (India). This position can be located in the UK or the US, and the candidate will need a high level of flexibility to travel.
This position reports to the Vice President – Product Management & Strategy.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
Own full P&L‑style accountability for the Conjugation business, driving sustainable revenue growth, portfolio performance, and customer value across flow cytometry and other applications.
Lead end‑to‑end program and product success, making critical trade-offs and investment decisions that balance customer value, revenue growth, quality, on‑time delivery, and product cost.
Shape the future through strategic product leadership by anticipating market and technology trends, defining long‑term portfolio strategy, and driving value creation through disciplined execution.
Partner closely with R&D, Operations, Finance, and Commercial teams to translate strategy into roadmap execution, ensuring clarity of ownership and decision‑making.
Elevate risk management and portfolio governance by pressure‑testing assumptions, enabling structured trade‑off discussions, and ensuring data‑driven decisions.
Lead with purpose by developing future product and business leaders, role-modeling DBS, Kaizen, and Danaher culture.
Business leader for Abcam’s Conjugation “Virtual Business Unit”, driving growth and operational excellence across Abcam’s conjugate portfolio.
The essential requirements of this job include:
A PhD, or equivalent, in a life sciences discipline
Long‑standing experience (10+ years) in RUO research reagents
Several years (5+ years) of experience managing people and leading teams
Deep expertise in flow cytometry, antibodies, dyes, and conjugation technologies
Strong product, portfolio, and business knowledge, with the ability to balance scientific depth with commercial decision‑making
Ability to distill complex scientific and technical topics and communicate effectively to both scientific and non‑scientific stakeholders
Proven ability to operate effectively in matrixed, global environments
Track record of delivering complex, cross‑functional programs on time and within agreed targets
Travel, Motor Vehicle Record & Physical/Environmental Requirements:
- Up to 50% travel – visiting sites, partners, and conferences/trade shows
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
Leading complex global, cross‑functional, or multi‑opco initiatives
Product management, portfolio ownership, or general management roles
The annual salary range for this role is $170,000 – $200,000. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. This range may be modified in the future.
This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
