Job Title: General Production Worker
Job Description
The General Production Worker supports daily operations in a high-volume steel distribution yard by unloading trailers, moving and organizing steel materials, and maintaining a clean and safe work area. This role involves extensive walking, consistent physical labor, and working outdoors in all weather conditions while learning and applying a color-coded system to identify and place steel products accurately.
Responsibilities
Unload trailers arriving in the yard and safely move steel materials into the warehouse and designated storage areas.
Complete an initial training period focused on general clean-up, learning color codes for steel, and understanding material placement in the warehouse.
Walk and stand for 8–10 hour shifts while performing production and material handling tasks throughout the yard and warehouse.
Use a color-coded system to identify, sort, and place steel products accurately, ensuring materials are stored in the correct locations.
Perform general clean-up duties to keep work areas organized, free of debris, and safe for all team members.
Receive inventory and assist with tracking and organizing incoming materials in the yard and warehouse.
Move metals and steel products consistently throughout the day using appropriate tools and safe lifting techniques.
Apply basic math skills and tape measure readings to support accurate measurement and handling of materials.
Read and follow written instructions in English related to production tasks, safety procedures, and warehouse operations.
Adapt to working outdoors in varying weather conditions while maintaining productivity and safety standards.
Essential Skills
Experience in general labor or similar physically demanding roles such as warehouse, landscaping, or construction.
Comfort working in a physically demanding position that requires consistent lifting, carrying, and moving of metals and large materials.
Ability to walk and stand for 8–10 hour shifts in a warehouse and yard environment.
Ability to work outside in the elements, including cold, rain, and snow.
Ability to see color clearly and learn, understand, and retain a color-coded system for steel identification and placement.
Basic math skills to support measurements and material handling tasks.
Ability to read and write in English to follow instructions, safety guidelines, and work documentation.
Ability to read and use a tape measure accurately.
Comfort working around large steel products and in an industrial warehouse environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Previous warehouse experience, especially in a production or distribution setting.
Background in general labor fields such as landscaping, construction, or similar outdoor, hands-on roles.
Willingness to learn new systems, including color coding and warehouse layout, and apply them consistently.
Reliability and strong work ethic to support stable, long-term employment.

Work Environment

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wallingford, CT.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
