Position Summary

This is a hands-on maintenance position for a small county jail (approximately 50 inmates) and attached sheriffs office. This position is typically the only maintenance employee and handles a wide range of repairs and upkeep for an older facility. The work is practical, independent, and essential to keeping the jail and office safe, functional, and running day-to-day.

What Youll Do

- Fix everyday problems: toilets, sinks, doors, lights, locks, and basic electrical issues\ - Perform routine maintenance on plumbing, HVAC filters, lighting, and fixtures\ - Repair bunks, showers, walls, floors, and hardware inside the jail\ - Keep doors, locks, and secure areas working properly\ - Do basic carpentry, painting, and general repairs\ - Snow removal, exterior lighting, and grounds as needed\ - Coordinate with outside contractors when bigger jobs come up\ - Respond to maintenance emergencies (water leaks, power issues, etc.)\ - Keep simple maintenance logs and communicate issues to supervisors

What Were Looking For

- Someone who can work independently and solve problems\ - Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and general building maintenance\ - Comfortable working in an older building with limited resources\ - Able to work safely in a secure jail environment\ - Reliable, practical, and willing to learn

Minimum Qualifications

- High school diploma or GED\ - At least 2 years of general maintenance or building repair experience\ - Valid drivers license\ - Ability to pass a background check for working in a jail

Preferred Experience (Not Required)

- Experience in a jail, hospital, school, or public building\ - Trade experience (HVAC, plumbing, electrical)\ - Experience working on older buildings

Pay & Benefits

Starting pay range: \$21-24 per hour, depending on experience.\ \ Pay placement will be based on skills, certifications, and demonstrated ability. This position is eligible for county benefits in accordance with county policy.

Working Conditions

- Work is performed in a secure jail and sheriffs office\ - Physical work including lifting (up to 50 lbs), climbing ladders, kneeling, and working in tight spaces\ - Occasional after-hours or on-call work for emergencies
