Job Duties
Respond to all emergency situations, both while on and off duty, such as car accidents, farm accidents, storms, explosions, etc. Render assistance and aid to the injured, protect property and the well-being of the public. Enforce all local, state and federal laws. Assists in civil, criminal and traffic investigations, which involves gathering of evidence, marking, preserving and protection the same for judicial use, interviews witnesses, suspected perpetrators and victims. Assists in the interrogations of suspects; completes investigative reports and all reports, as required. Physically arrests criminal perpetrators. A Deputy Sheriff must be able to give clear, honest testimony in Court. Serves arrest warrants. Transports mental patients, prisoners and blood to area hospitals or other security facilities, delivers death notices to family. May be required to operate motor vehicles and other equipment associated with law enforcement and may be required to repeatedly perform small mechanical motions of keys and other devices used on a continuing basis and requiring a medium ability to accomplish. May be required to arrest and/or transport persons during all hours and weather conditions. May be required to work in other divisions of the Sheriff’s Office. Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education Required
Minimum of an Associate of Arts (A.A.) Degree, preferably in Criminal Justice. Must be a full-time POST licensed peace officer or POST licensed eligible on the date of hire. Must be a United States Citizen. Must have no felony convictions. This position shall be filled in accordance with civil service rules and regulations. Must possess a valid Driver’s License.
