Job Title: Machine Operator

Job Description

The Machine Operator sets up, maintains, and operates production machinery to ensure efficient, continuous, and high-quality output. This role requires a reliable individual who works with strong attention to detail and adheres to safety standards at all times. You will receive on-the-job training and are expected to demonstrate a willingness to learn and continuously improve. The position will train on first shift for approximately 2–4 months before transitioning to second shift; for the right candidate, the transition to second shift may be fast-tracked if needed.

Responsibilities

  • Set up machines, including calibration and cleaning, to prepare for each production cycle.

  • Control and adjust machine settings, such as speed and other parameters, to meet production requirements.

  • Feed raw materials or parts into semi-automated machines in a safe and efficient manner.

  • Inspect parts using precision and measuring tools to verify that they meet quality specifications.

  • Test machine operation periodically to ensure proper performance and to identify issues early.

  • Troubleshoot and fix issues that occur during the shift to minimize downtime and scrap.

  • Check finished output to identify and correct any machine-related errors, defects, or flaws.

  • Keep accurate records of approved and defective units or final products for quality and traceability purposes.

  • Maintain detailed activity logs documenting machine settings, production counts, and any adjustments or repairs.

  • Follow established production procedures and safety protocols throughout all tasks.

  • Use hand and power tools, including those required for setup, adjustment, and basic maintenance of machines.

  • Read and interpret blueprints and other production documentation as needed to complete work accurately.

Essential Skills

  • At least 6 months of experience working with a punch press or CNC machines.

  • Proven experience as a machine operator in a production or manufacturing environment.

  • Working knowledge of diverse high-speed machinery and related equipment.

  • Proficiency using measurement tools such as calipers and micrometers.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and use a tape measure accurately.

  • Hands-on experience with machine setup, including calibration and adjustments.

  • Ability to perform basic inspection of parts using precision tools and visual checks.

  • Understanding of production procedures and workflow in a manufacturing setting.

  • Consistent adherence to health and safety regulations, including the use of protective gear.

  • Strong attention to detail to identify defects and maintain product quality.

  • Effective teamwork and communication skills to collaborate with coworkers and supervisors.

  • Sufficient physical stamina and strength to stand for extended periods, handle materials, and operate machinery safely.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience operating punch presses, press brakes, and shear/brake press equipment.

  • in machine operation involving sheet metal fabrication.

  • Familiarity with expander machines and other specialized production equipment.

  • Ability to operate CNC machinery and adjust programs or settings as directed.

  • Comfort using a variety of hand and power tools in a production environment.

  • Experience with inspection processes and documentation of approved and defective units.

  • Ability to maintain organized and accurate production and activity logs.

  • Demonstrated willingness to learn new machines, processes, and techniques through on-the-job training.

Work Environment

This role is based in a manufacturing facility that is not temperature-controlled, with bay doors open in the summer and fans running constantly to improve airflow. The environment is fairly clean for an industrial setting, though some areas can be louder due to machinery. Appropriate personal protective equipment, including ear and eye protection, is provided and expected to be used. You will work on first shift during a 2–4 month training period and then transition to second shift, with some flexibility to accelerate that transition for the right candidate. The work involves standing, moving around production areas, and using a variety of machines, hand tools, and power tools throughout the shift.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Waconia, MN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.92 - $23.92/hr.
