GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is seeking a Temporary Construction Technician to support construction operations in Cody, Wyoming. Under limited supervision, this position performs a variety of duties related to construction project support, including verifying construction project documentation, issuing oversized and overweight load permits, conducting field inspections, and assisting with materials testing and surveying activities. This role plays an important part in helping ensure transportation projects are completed safely, accurately, and in accordance with project specifications.
Located in the heart of northwestern Wyoming, Cody offers a unique blend of western heritage and outdoor recreation. The area provides easy access to a wide range of activities including hiking, fishing, boating, camping, hunting, ATV riding, and wildlife viewing, with Yellowstone National Park just a short drive away.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.
Inspects construction projects.
Prepares, reviews, maintains and files construction project records, estimates, and reports.
Perform topographic surveys.
Conducts aggregate gradation testing, density testing for earthwork and surfacing, and concrete testing.
Performs survey tasks such as drive stakes, hubs, hold tapes, hold the rod, and instrument operation.
Performs minor surveying computations such as slopes, areas, volumes, cuts, fills, etc.
Inspects pipe backfill and fill construction.
Inspects paving operation to ensure compliance with plans and specifications.
Performs minor engineering computations such as areas, volumes, material spread rates, etc.
Tests, samples, and reports materials proposed to be used in construction projects.
Reviews and learns test methods, manuals, and procedures.
Performs basic engineering calculations.
Performs testing and sampling on bridges and roadways for analysis.
Reviews and learns traffic control methods, manuals, and procedures.
Sets up, maintains, and removes a safe traffic control plan under live traffic conditions.
Maintains traffic control devices in the field; performs traffic control duties.
Assist in the investigation of existing roadways for forensic study.
Assists gathering samples, providing a safe working zone, flagging, etc.
Ensures that proper equipment and supplies are loaded and in good working condition.
Performs more complex lab tests of samples and documents results for QA/QC purposes.
Serves as a technical resource for other employees; attends and completes all designated training sessions to maintain required certifications and performs inspections.
Communicates internally and externally regarding project information and courses of action/consequences on smaller projects.
Oversee smaller projects and/or components of larger projects.
Assists permit processes to obtain water, gravel, plant site, and surveying agreements and aids in the renewal and file maintenance of these agreements.
Maintain contract documents in Construction Management System.
Qualifications
PREFERENCES/**AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:
**Must have the ability to obtain water certifications if necessary.
**Must have the ability to obtain a Certification to operate specified equipment as directed by WYDOT.
**Must have the ability to obtain a Certificate of course completion of Defensive Driving.
**Must have the ability to obtain a First Aid/CPR certification.
**Must have the ability to obtain a Flagger certification.
KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of materials testing. Surveying methods and equipment operation.
Knowledge of construction inspection, which includes the interpretation of plans and specifications.
Knowledge of documentation of project records.
Knowledge of communication with supervisors and contractors.
Knowledge of working towards a leadership role.
Knowledge of working outdoors and a variety of weather conditions.
Knowledge of material testing, ability to perform complicated computer calculations.
Knowledge of survey methods & ability to apply such as uploading & downloading of survey files.
Knowledge of computers and calculators.
Knowledge of surveying.
Knowledge of contract time, administration & contract changes.
Knowledge of engineering computations/formulas.
Knowledge of core drilling equipment, pneumatic & electric jackhammers, and hand tools.

Necessary Special Requirements
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Potentially exposed to hazardous waste and biological waste.
Working around high-speed traffic and heavy construction equipment.
Work outdoors in various inclement weather conditions to include heat, cold, snow, and wet.
Physical Ability: Bending, stooping, and lifting up to fifty pounds; safely lifting and moving necessary materials from one point to another; ability to stand for long periods of time.
Must be available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year.
