Job Description

Prairie View A&M University Panther Camp is seeking energetic, responsible, and enthusiastic Summer Camp Counselors to support youth programs hosted on campus. Camp Counselors will supervise and engage children in educational, recreational, and enrichment activities while ensuring a safe, fun, and supportive environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise groups of youth campers throughout daily camp activities

  • Assist with organizing and leading recreational, educational, and team-building activities

  • Ensure the safety, well-being, and positive experience of all campers

  • Maintain appropriate supervision at all times during activities, meals, and transitions

  • Support camp staff with set-up and clean-up of camp activities and materials

  • Promote teamwork, respect, and positive behavior among campers

  • Communicate effectively with camp leadership regarding camper needs or concerns

  • Follow all Prairie View A&M University youth program policies and safety procedures

  • Related duties as assigned

Required Education and Experience:

  • Presently enrolled at Prairie View A&M University for at least nine (9) graduate or six (6) undergraduate semester credit hours during the term in which the work is to be done.

  • Must be in good academic standing (SAP) as demonstrated through your college; minimum 2.0 GPA

  • No prior experience necessary

  • For work eligibility during a summer term, a student must be enrolled for at least three (3) graduate or undergraduate semester credit hours during the term in which the work is to be done or preregistered at least six (6) undergraduate semester hours for the fall/spring terms.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Current Prairie View A&M University student

  • Education, child development, or youth leadership experience

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older

  • High school diploma or currently enrolled in college preferred

  • Experience working with youth (camp, tutoring, mentoring, childcare, or education) preferred

  • Strong communication and leadership skills

  • Ability to work outdoors and participate in active recreational activities

  • Must successfully complete a background check and required youth protection training
