Overview

At Publicis Sapient, we help the world’s leading organizations transform through technology, data, and AI. We are looking for a Senior Manager/Director of Big Data Performance Engineering to lead performance initiatives across large‑scale data platforms and mission‑critical applications.

This role sits at the intersection of deep technical expertise, client engagement, and de livery leadership . You will own performance engineering end‑to‑end — from diagnostics and solution design to execution, metrics, and executive‑level reporting — while working hands‑on with distributed systems and leading teams across geographies.

Responsibilities

Your Impact

  • Diagnose and clearly articulate performance challenges across large‑scale applications and data pipelines

  • Design, recommend, implement, and validate performance improvements across batch and streaming workloads

  • Own and drive performance metrics , dashboards, and reporting cadence to ensure visibility and accountability

  • Lead performance tuning initiatives end‑to‑end , from problem definition through measurable outcomes

  • Design and automate performance and load testing frameworks to enable repeatable and scalable validation

  • Identify critical system bottlenecks , prioritize remediation efforts, and drive resolution to completion

  • Provide hands‑on technical guidance and deep troubleshooting in Apache Spark–based distributed systems

  • Collaborate closely with cross‑location engineering teams (India / US) to align execution and delivery

  • Engage directly with clients and stakeholders , present findings and recommendations, and incorporate feedback into final solutions

Qualifications

Your Skills and Experience

  • Experience working with high‑throughput systems (100–1000+ TPS)

  • Strong expertise in Apache Spark, Scala, and batch and streaming ETL pipelines

  • Proficiency in stream processing and real‑time data systems

  • Solid understanding of performance engineering principles in distributed environments

  • Hands‑on experience with debugging, profiling, and system‑level troubleshooting

  • Experience working with AWS platforms and services

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain complex technical problems and solutions to both technical and non‑technical audience

Leadership Expectations

  • Capable of leading and mentoring a highly skilled team (4–6 engineers) distributed across the US and India

  • Operates with a high degree of autonomy and minimal oversight

  • Self‑driven, outcome‑focused, and accountable for delivering measurable results

  • Takes full ownership of initiatives from inception through execution and impact

Set Yourself Apart With

  • Exposure to integrating Large Language Models (LLMs) (OpenAI, Azure OpenAI, or similar) into business and engineering workflows

  • Familiarity with Copilot‑style interfaces and AI‑assisted developer or analyst experiences

  • Understanding of prompt engineering, embeddings, and Retrieval‑Augmented Generation (RAG) architectures and how they interact with data platforms

Contract modality: This position is open either for a Permanent or a Contractor modality in Colombia, Costa Rica, Mexico, Brazil, Peru and Argentina.
