The MSW program welcomes applicants diverse in age, socioeconomic status, cultural heritage, ethnicity, color, faith, residence in urban and rural settings, gender identity, sexual orientation, disabilities, lived experience of recovery, and academic background. The Professor of Practice is actively involved in teaching, program development, and other strategies to support institutional effectiveness consistent with the university’s mission, which is to empower learners to achieve their career and life goals through personally enriching experiences and outstanding educational pathways.
The mission of the MSW program at Utica University is to prepare students for excellence in social work practice using person-in-environment perspectives and recovery-oriented approaches. As a result, we are seeking a scholar-practitioner with expertise in promoting mental health among underrepresented populations, and we are particularly interested in applicants with experience utilizing and/or teaching about the recovery model, trauma-informed care, and evidence-based practices (e.g., Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Cognitive Processing Therapy).
We are seeking a faculty member who has the knowledge, skills, and abilities to educate MSW students about how to enhance the well-being of LGBTQ, Black, Latinx, Asian, and/or indigenous communities, with attention to children, youth, and families. As a result, preference will be given to applicants with clinical experience serving clients and communities of color, and those who demonstrate scholarship on the impact of systematic injustice on mental health and recovery.
Successful candidates will have significant direct practice experience, including a minimum 2 years post-MSW experience, working with individuals, families, and/or groups. Applicants with a Ph.D. in Social Work or closely related field and who are also licensed to practice social work in New York State (or their own state, if living outside of New York) are preferred.
