Under direct supervision, the Payroll Accountant I assists senior payroll staff with the accounting responsibilities related to the payroll function. This role is responsible for the financial accounting, regulatory compliance and internal controls related to the payroll function. The role also assists with accounts payable and other accounting tasks.
Generate custom reports for requested data to internal and external recipients
Ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations and standards
Stay current with changes in accounting policies and regulations to ensure ongoing compliance
Apply continuous improvement techniques and methods to internal processes and systems
Analyze data to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement
Provide support during internal and external audits
Participate in the implementation of payroll policies, procedures, and special projects
Process payroll for multiple sites
Union and non union
Understand overtime rules
Kronos system experience preferred
Maintain payroll related accrual accounts
Assist with processing accounts payable invoices
Conduct follow up related to accounts payable
Various month-end close activities
Perform several account reconcilements
Assist with fixed asset accounting
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive information
Willingness to learn and adapt to new challenges
Basic understanding of payroll processes and regulations
