This is a part-time position with a maximum of 1,508 hours per year and is not eligible for paid holidays, leave, or benefits.

Job Description

The part-time Building Brains Afterschool Program director will Assist the Program Supervisor in enrolling, orienting, monitoring, leading, planning, implementing, and monitoring of the daily lesson plans, programs, projects and operations of the program's policies and procedures. Additionally, the incumbent be an onsite lead, monitoring individuals or small groups of students working on and completing after school program assignments, projects and activities, as well as monitoring children to ensure their health, safety and physical well-being.

Essential Duties

  • Performing routine First Aid and CPR; including emergency situations, according to established procedures; enforcing and ensuring health and safety rules and procedures are observed.

  • Interacting with children in an effort to build self-esteem and form a comfort level with their peers, answering student questions, providing proper examples, emotional support, a friendly attitude, and general guidance.

  • Assisting program supervisor with conducting orientation for parents and students regarding the program's policies and procedures.

  • Assisting program supervisor with the development and coordination of a calendar for program activities and events designed to complement student learning and enrichment.

  • Overseeing students in physical activities, including but not limited to, basketball, kickball, softball, dodgeball, running, etc.

  • Maintaining program standards of student behavior needed to achieve effective participation in activities without interfering with the natural, informal atmosphere of the After School Program; assisting in resolving student disputes; referring serious discipline problems to program supervisors.

  • Maintaining a clean and organized environment for students; demonstrating and involving students in cleaning and organizing the program activities areas before, during, and after use.

  • Acting as a liaison between parents, staff, and school personnel; assisting in conferring with parents regarding student performance and behavior, as necessary.

  • Assisting in the maintenance of accounting procedures for budgeting and expenditures and inventory of equipment and supplies.

  • Performing related duties as assigned.

Public Speaking Duties

  • Must be able to lead educational programs in front of 10 to 25 children

  • Participating in regular staff meetings and assisting with in-service training

  • Leading and/or facilitating educational programs to the youth and providing clear instructions on the programs

Other Job Requirements/Information

  • Comprehensive background

  • This job requires fingerprinting.

  • Satisfactory determination from the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL)

  • 50 - pound lift test is required

Hourly rate

Salary will be $21.00 per hour.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Degree or higher AND

  • One year experience working with and monitoring school-aged children in an organized camp, afterschool, daycare, or similar setting

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above will also be considered.

  • Driver's License

  • CPR Certification within 90 days

  • First Aid Certification within 90 days

Preferred Qualifications in addition to the above minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in early education, elementary education, or a closely related fields, such as secondary education, special education, art, science or math.

  • Supervisory experience working with and monitoring school-aged children in an organized camp, afterschool, daycare, or similar setting.

  • CPR Certification

  • First Aid Certification
