Michaels Director - Supply Chain & Optimization in United States
Support Center - Irving
The Director - Supply Chain Planning and Optimization leads the development, planning and optimization of Supply Chain operational processes to drive efficiency, consistency, and effectiveness across the Distribution Center Network. This role is responsible for all centralized workload planning, strategic operational planning, and KPI reporting to ensure the Distribution Centers have the plans, resources, and operational guidance needed to deliver operational excellence.
The Director will oversee all Distribution Center communications and partner closely with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment, clarity, and consistency across operational priorities and initiatives. Acting as a strategic liaison between Distribution Centers and the Support Center, this role synchronizes operations to eliminate silos, mitigate risks, and streamline cross-functional communication
Ultimately the Director of Supply Chain Planning and Optimization is accountable for creation of strategic Distribution Center plans to accommodate volume, building setup, staffing, and special projects. Optimized deliverables will allow Distribution Centers to minimize distractions and dedicate full focus to driving store service quality and peak operational performance.
Major Activities:
Lead DC Workload Planning & Operational Coordination :
Lead the Centralized Planning team with the goal of providing the DC Network with a strategic plan inclusive of volume, building setup, staffing, and special project execution
Partner with Merchandising, Inventory, Supply Chain Strategy, and Transportation teams to align on inbound and outbound volume, operational priorities, and execution timelines
Develop, maintain, and manage operational planning tools and templates used to communicate volume forecasts, seasonal surges, and major operational initiatives to DC teams
Participate in cross-functional planning meetings to ensure operational workload, inventory flow, and capacity plans remain balanced and executable across the network
Support planning and execution of major operational initiatives, peak season, and large scale go-gets to ensure accurate labor forecasting and operational readiness
Plan for and execute yearly capital expenditures
Work with DC Network and Facilities leaders to identify and prioritize capital expenditure needed, aligning with the fiscal budget calendar
Create and maintain a healthy Facilities Projects backlog, identifying and prioritizing facilities obsolescence and end of life needs
Manage external vendor relationships
Lead major Facilities Capital Projects, partnering closely with Facilities Operations Managers, DC Directors, Tech, and external partners
Distribution Center Communications:
Oversee the management and coordination of communication to Distribution Center leadership to ensure clear, accurate, and consistent messaging across the network
Support the coordination and execution of key operational meetings and field leadership forums to facilitate alignment and communication between DC leadership and the Support Center
Coaching and Development:
Coach team members to build a robust talent pipeline and ensure long-term succession planning at all levels

Minimum Education:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
Minimum Special Certifications or Technical Skills:
10+ years Supply Chain, Distribution Center Operations, or Logistics experience
Experience leading cross-functional teams and driving operational improvements across complex environments
Project management experience leading large-scale operational programs and initiatives
Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Strong knowledge of Warehouse Management Software, specifically Blue Yonder and Red Prairie
Strong knowledge of Engineered Labor Standards
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrated ability to lead through change and adapt to evolving business needs
Strong organizational, time management, and prioritization skills with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously
Preferred Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Industrial Engineering, or other related field
Preferred Type of Experience the Job Requires:
10 years of DC / DC Network experience in leadership roles
Advanced knowledge of Distribution Center planning
Demonstrated ability to drive measurable business results
Physical Requirements:
Standing and walking
Site visits require the ability to stand and walk through the DC operational environment
Travel:
- Overnight travel / visits to DC locations up to 50% of the time
