About the role
As a Clinical Data Manager at Avania, you will support both the day-to-day clinical data management needs of studies and the database development work that enables efficient study execution, and helping ensure studies are set up clearly, consistently, and with a strong quality mindset. The Clinical Data Manager position is designed for someone earlier in their career who brings a strong scientific foundation, excellent attention to detail, and the kind of structured thinking that supports both data review and system design. You will join a small team in Australia, where your work will have visible impact and where curiosity, initiative, and a willingness to learn are highly valued.
What you'll be doing - Clinical Data Manager
Contribute to database development work, including: Case Report Form design; data validation specifications; user acceptance testing; database programming
Support user and access administration activities (e.g., setting up new user accounts), perform site training on navigating the EDC database and act as database helpdesk support for site and other database end users
Support clinical data review and cleaning activities, helping maintain data quality and consistency across active clinical studies.
Monitor data quality trends and follow up on outstanding items in collaboration with cross-functional study team members.
Collaborate with cross-functional colleagues to coordinate how data moves through a study and ensure data management outputs align with broader study needs.
Define and program specifications for Power BI dashboard setup, including high level content descriptions, visuals, definitions (e.g. definition of ‘enrolled’), data sources and refresh policy

What we're looking for - Clinical Data Manager
A background in science, biological sciences, medical, or a related field, with the subject matter foundation needed to work effectively in clinical research.
Early-career or junior-level experience aligned to clinical data management, database programming/development, or a closely related area within clinical trials.
A naturally curious mindset and genuine interest in understanding not just the data itself, but where it comes from and how it is used downstream.
Strong attention to detail, organized thinking, and a clear, logical approach to problem-solving.
An interest in identifying repetition, recognizing patterns, and helping standardize processes for quality and efficiency.
Evidence of initiative and eagerness to grow, such as independent learning or demonstrated interest in the clinical research environment.
What you'll need - Clinical Data Manager
Working knowledge of clinical trials and the role that data management and study database setup play in successful study execution.
Exposure to EDC systems and/or PowerBI is valuable, particularly for candidates who can contribute to the database development side of the role.
Ability to learn quickly and contribute across a blended role that combines data cleaning and database build responsibilities.
A quality-focused mindset with the ability to think in a clean, methodical, and scientifically grounded way.
Comfort working in a hybrid environment, with preference for candidates who can be based in Sydney, and Melbourne also considered.
Willingness to work as part of a small local team, that is part of a larger international organization, where collaboration, responsiveness, and adaptability are important.
Professional communication skills and the ability to work effectively with colleagues in an international organization.
