Liberty Latin America Associate Technician in United States

Whats the role

The OSP Technician is responsible for performing plant and B2B related troubleshooting For Headend to CPE covering fiber Optics repairs, surveys and design upgrades, outage repair, on-call duty, shift work, track/repair, power supply maintenance, and construction maintenance in accordance with Flow procedures and practices. The Network Technician will be called upon to troubleshoot and resolve service failures related to any Flow products. Furthermore, the Network Technician will be part of the team responsible for construction of new outside line plant as and when required by the St. Lucia BU.

Performs other duties as requested CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs routine troubleshooting calls troubleshoots the plant through the distribution cable to the node in order to restore customer’s service.

  • Must have the ability to climb poles, ladders (18 to 30 feet) and operate aerial lifts above ground, as determined by the system's requirements.

  • Must possess the ability to use basic and advanced cable test equipment.

  • Surveys the plant to ensure service availability to potential customers.

  • Performs underground location of existing plant using system prints and cable locating equipment in order to prevent cable damage and service interruption.

  • Must have the ability to read general system layouts from blueprints and maps.

  • Responds to and repairs service interruptions during regular business hours, shift work or when "on-call" as required.

  • Normal work shift may include evenings and/or weekend equating to 8-hour days for 5 days a

  • Must be available to work overtime including weekends, evenings, and holidays.

  • Performs Cumulative Leakage Index (CLI) ride-out and track and repair leakage in accordance to Broadcasting Commission and Spectrum Management regulations.

  • Works and travels in inclement weather.

  • Performs construction and construction maintenance duties such as: splices aerial/underground cable and equipment to build or restore cable plant to system specification; splices and activates new cable plant as required.

  • Repairs and/or replace damaged aerial/underground plant; and inspects, repairs and/or replaces power supplies, as necessary.

  • Must comply with safety procedures and requirements.

  • During normal day-to-day activities: clean, maintain and stock vehicle and equipment in order to be prepared for daily responsibilities.

  • Complete daily work order for each job by close of assigned duty.

  • Reports need for vehicle repair or service when required and/or prescribed; and reports any accidents/ incidences, losses, injuries, or property damage to supervisor and/or customer.

  • Drives company vehicle in a safe and responsible manner.

  • Reviews all requested services with the customer to ensure understanding and agreement.

  • Works in crawl spaces, attics, and permit required confined spaces.

  • Exposure to moderate noise level.

  • Must possess knowledge of basic mathematics in order to calculate signal levels loss/gains

  • Ability to communicate with customers in a clear and straight forward manner.

  • Troubleshoots the forward and return path in the drop from the tap to the customer's equipment for multiple services.

  • Must possess the ability to prioritize and organize effectively.

  • Possesses knowledge of electrical standards.

  • Inspects existing ground to ensure compliance with Flow’s requirements; make referral for new ground as required to protect employees, customers, and equipment from damage.

  • Must be able to work while standing 50-70% of the time.

  • Works within manufacturer's rated weight capacity for all equipment, including but not limited to ladders and aerial lifts.

  • Determines acceptability of video, data, and voice services by reviewing television picture quality and PC and modem connection following any installation or work on cable services to provide the best possible service for the customer.

  • Educates the customer on the service when required.

  • Provides information on by supervisor to achievedepartmental goals and objectives.

  • Advance trouble shooting on Noise Mitigation between the Headend/Hub and Field

  • Ability to Erect and Trouble shoot Field UPS at 90V on HFC

  • Able to Perform network Alteration and Upgrades in keeping with the network specification and standard.

  • Ability to Use all Fiber Testing tool and Equipment for Active trouble shooting

  • Ability to Update Fiber Assignment for Core and Distribution network

  • Ability to Trouble Shoot GPON Optical Faults

  • Ability to Splice Prepare and Splice fiber optics up to 240 Count

  • Ability to Read network fiber Assignment from Headend, Exchange , Field Splice and Cabinets

  • Ability to complete Corporate Projects within the Required Project timeline.

  • Training for Service delivery and Jn OPS technician on Network trouble shooting and Management.

  • Ability to Use the Monitoring Platform to guide in trouble shooting and repairing network faults

  • Ability to Access and report on the core network after a natural or manmade disaster

Knowledge and Experience

  • Possesses: knowledge of Flow’s products and services, basic knowledge of telecommunications system operations.

  • Must have knowledge of computers

  • Required Training/Licenses/Certifications: Certified Network Technician Level 2

  • Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.

  • Drive and Operate Bucket and Crane Truck

  • College diploma or equivalent

  • 5 years’ experience in cabling and electrical installations

  • Other professional qualifications /certifications

  • Proven ability to lead and train new employees

  • Ability to identify existing copper cable and fiber infrastructure.
