The Material & Production Planner is responsible for end-to-end planning and scheduling activities to ensure material availability, production continuity, and on-time delivery performance. This role uses JDE to manage demand, supply, planning parameters, work orders, and inventory controls, partnering closely with Production, Procurement, Warehousing, Customer Service, and Suppliers.

Production Planning & Scheduling

  • Develop & maintain production schedules aligned to customer demand, capacity, and constraints.

  • Convert forecast & customer orders into executable plans (planned orders/work orders).

  • Release, monitor, & adjust work orders in JDE to meet service, cost, and inventory targets.

  • Manage schedule adherence, prioritize changes, and communicate impacts to stakeholders.

    Material Planning

  • Run, review, and act on MRP outputs in JDE (planned orders, exceptions, shortages).

  • Ensure timely availability of raw materials, components, and packaging for production.

  • Maintain planning master data: lead times, lot sizes, safety stock, reorder points, order policies, and BOM/Routings coordination as needed.

  • Identify and mitigate material risks (supplier delays, quality holds, obsolescence).

    Inventory Management & Control

  • Balance inventory to achieve targets for service level, turns, and working capital.

  • Analyse slow-moving/excess inventory and drive actions: rescheduling, substitution, returns, or phase-out plans.

  • Support cycle counting/root-cause for inventory variances and improve inventory accuracy.

    Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Collaborate daily with Production, Maintenance, Quality, and Warehouse teams to support execution.

  • Partner with Procurement/Sourcing to align purchase orders & supplier capacity with the site plan.

  • Coordinate with Customer Service teams on order priorities, allocations, and delivery commitments.

  • Participate in S&OP / MPS / weekly planning meetings as required.

    Continuous Improvement & Planning Excellence

  • Track, report, and improve KPIs (e.g., OTIF, schedule adherence, material availability).

  • Improve planning processes, standard work, and data quality in JDE.

  • Support new product introductions, engineering changes, and end-of-life planning.

    ERP (JDE) Responsibilities

  • Create/maintain planning parameters (item branch, sourcing rules as applicable, lead times).

  • Execute MRP planning runs and manage exception messages.

  • Create/release/adjust work orders, planned orders, and associated transactions.

  • Coordinate with master data teams to maintain accurate BOMs, routings, and item attributes.

Ensure transactional discipline (receipts, issues, completions) to protect inventory and schedule integrity.

    KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES :

  • Develop and release production schedules → for the assigned value streams (product lines) → to meet customer demand within available line capacity and constraints.

  • Sequence and update daily/weekly work orders → across production lines → to optimize throughput and maintain schedule adherence.

  • Create, maintain, and validate inventory transactions in JDE → for raw materials, WIP movements, and finished goods → to ensure accurate system inventory and reliable planning signals.

  • Monitor and reconcile on-hand inventory vs. physical/material movement → for raw materials and staging locations → to resolve variances and prevent shortages or excess.

  • Track and communicate raw material availability and risks → against the production plan and open customer orders → to enable timely escalation and proactive recovery actions.

  • Maintain and improve material storage and space utilization records → for warehouses, point-of-use, and staging areas → to support efficient material flow and safe, compliant storage practices.

  • Coordinate and prioritize material replenishment requests → for line-side and warehouse inventory → to prevent line stoppages and support continuous production.

  • Prepare and review planning and inventory performance reports → for assigned value streams and the Material & Production Planning Manager → to drive actions that improve service, stability, and inventory health

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Operations, Engineering, Business, or related field.

  • 4-6 years in materials planning / production planning in a manufacturing environment.

  • Hands-on experience with ERP system (preferably JD Edwards (JDE)) in planning and execution (MRP, work orders, inventory).

  • Strong understanding of MRP concepts, BOM structures, lead times, capacity considerations, and shop-floor execution.

  • Experience with S&OP/MPS processes (preferred)
