UL, LLC Senior Project Engineer in Mexico

You will join our renewables team which provides the technical due diligence in support of financing utility-scale and distributed solar photovoltaic (PV), wind, and battery storage projects.

While working within a collaborative team environment you will help provide an independent review and assessment of the electrical/power system engineering designs and the technology used in solar Photovoltaic, wind and Battery energy storage system projects.

In addition, you will support the assessment of project during different stage, such as development, construction or operational phase including on-site field inspections, and report preparation. This position will be responsible for supporting multiple projects simultaneously with a demonstrated competence in a broad range of DC and AC electrical power systems engineering, generation, and construction concepts.

• Lead the electrical engineering and technology aspects of high-profile Independent Engineering and Technical Advisory projects for project financing, tax equity, sales and acquisitions of solar, wind and storage projects and portfolios, including performing electrical design reviews and reviewing the electrical power systems aspects of engineering, procurement, and construction contracts, interconnection contracts and project construction schedules.

• Provide senior‑level technical guidance and contribute to the development and continuous improvement of technical reviews for key equipment used in PV projects, including inverters, PV modules, transformers, tracking systems, SCADA systems, and other major electrical components.

• Conduct in‑depth, independent assessments of electrical engineering design packages, construction documentation, and as‑built records, including drawings, schematics, specifications, calculations, engineering studies, submittals, test records, and QA/QC documentation.

• Perform on-site construction and operational monitoring to evaluate compliance with design documents, industry best practices, and QA/QC programs. Lead initial site assessments and technical scoping visits for project‑specific services.

• Engage directly with clients, including lenders, investors, developers, contractors, and engineering teams, representing UL Solutions in technical discussions, issue resolution, and status meetings. Provide clear, senior‑level communication of complex engineering topics to diverse audiences.

• Prepare comprehensive, high‑quality technical reports covering electrical design assessments, project documentation reviews, and construction monitoring findings.

• Contribute to departmental knowledge growth by mentoring junior engineers and participating in both formal and informal training initiatives.

• Collaborate in regular departmental and team meetings and help drive continuous improvement initiatives across processes, tools, and project delivery frameworks.

• Willingness to travel 25% to 35%, depending on project needs.

• B.S. degree in electrical engineering.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex engineering, construction, and operational issues to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders

• Proven experience in the design and/or analysis of AC and DC power systems for wind, PV, or battery storage projects preferred.

• Experience with Colombian and/or Mexican electrical codes and construction practices. Knowledge of power system standards and grid codes in other Latin American countries is considered a strong plus.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.

• Full professional proficiency in English.

• Valid Driver’s license and clean driving record.

• Self‑driven, highly organized, and able to prioritize and manage multiple workstreams with limited supervision.

• Strong customer‑focused mindset, with demonstrated ability to interact directly with clients in a senior capacity.

• Experience providing technical coordination or oversight of junior engineering staff is a plus.
