What You’ll Do
The Office of the Chief Technology Officer (OCTO) generates and prototypes new research ideas in applied AI, advanced analytics, and emerging product concepts that leverage next-generation technologies. We seek a Research Engineer to transform prototype concepts into production-ready solutions that service and product organizations can confidently deploy to customers.
This role sits at the intersection of AI research and operational excellence, requiring both technical depth and collaborative leadership to guide research innovations toward customer value. You will work with cutting-edge AI research outputs and ensure they transition smoothly into robust, scalable, and maintainable systems.
Design Intuitive User Experiences
Translate research concepts and product requirements into intuitive, user-centered interface designs that serve Teradata’s enterprise customers
Create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups that align with Teradata’s design system and brand standards across web and mobile surfaces
Conduct usability testing and iterate on designs based on user feedback, behavioral data, and accessibility standards
Build Scalable UI Components
Design and implement reusable UI component libraries that enable product teams to ship consistently and efficiently across platforms
Contribute to the frontend API layer to ensure clean, performant contracts between UI components and backend services
Integrate design workflows with engineering teams using modern tooling to create efficient, repeatable design-to-production handoff processes
Establish Design Quality Standards
Define and enforce UX/UI best practices, accessibility standards (WCAG), and design documentation guidelines across research outputs
Conduct thorough design reviews and usability analyses to ensure interfaces meet enterprise-grade user experience standards
Build the design systems and frameworks that enable consistent translation of research prototypes into polished, production-ready interfaces
Bridge Research and Delivery
Collaborate with research teams to understand user needs and translate emerging AI capabilities into compelling, accessible interfaces
Communicate design decisions, interaction patterns, and UX rationale clearly across multidisciplinary teams
Who You’ll Work With
You will work with product and service organizations to ensure user experience is central to every customer-ready solution
What Makes You a Qualified Candidate
Technical Skills
Strong practical skills in modern web technologies (React, TypeScript, Next.js) and experience designing or consuming APIs that serve frontend applications
Solid instincts around reliability, observability, and performance—and proven ability to operationalize those instincts in production systems
A track record of building developer tools or shared infrastructure that measurably improves engineering productivity
Ability to thrive in fast-paced, collaborative environments and work closely with cross-functional partners
Willingness to pick up slack and take ownership beyond the immediate scope of the role
Required Experience
5+ years of software engineering experience, with significant time spent building shared platforms, developer tools, or infrastructure that other engineers rely on
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
Demonstrated care for developer experience with a proven ability to make engineering teams more productive through tooling and platform investments
Strong communication skills and experience partnering across multidisciplinary engineering and product teams
What You’ll Bring
Experience building shared component libraries
Familiarity with BFF (backend-for-frontend) architectures and API patterns that balance flexibility with consistency across client platforms
Performance optimization and latency reduction experience in consumer-facing applications
Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, build systems, and deployment automation
Background in observability and monitoring (metrics, logging, tracing)
Prior work on AI/ML products or in rapidly evolving product environments
Active contribution to open-source projects or a publicly available portfolio demonstrating substantial platform or infrastructure engineering work
