MUFG Securities is seeking a Director - Portfolio Risk Manager to provide independent oversight of transaction-level and portfolio-level risks across the Global Structured Solution business in APAC. This role is pivotal in ensuring that credit and loan portfolio risks remain within the organisation’s risk appetite, supporting sustainable business growth through proactive monitoring, analysis, and the development of advanced risk management tools and frameworks. The position offers you the chance to shape risk culture, drive strategic enhancements, and collaborate with global teams. If you are seeking a role where your expertise will directly influence business outcomes and risk strategy, this is your moment to make a meaningful impact.

  • This is a newly established position offering you the unique opportunity to build and enhance risk management frameworks from the ground up, allowing you to leave a lasting mark on the organisation’s approach to portfolio oversight.

  • You will be empowered to work collaboratively with global counterparts, internal stakeholders, and external agent banks, fostering an environment of shared knowledge and communal problem-solving across regions.

What you'll do:

As Director - Portfolio Risk Manager, your day-to-day responsibilities will centre around providing independent oversight of both transaction-level and portfolio-level risks within the Global Structured Solution business. You will play a crucial role in maintaining rigorous credit administration standards by ensuring all relevant documentation is accurately archived. Your keen analytical abilities will be put to use as you monitor deal covenants, conduct annual rating reviews on loan facilities, analyse asset impacts on collateral, and assess early warning indicators. Regular communication with internal experts will help you deliver insightful transaction-specific rating reviews. On a broader scale, you will review portfolio risks—including concentration, correlation, and stress testing—while evaluating pipeline trades for their impact on overall exposure. You will also design comprehensive reporting materials for key risk meetings and contribute APAC metrics to global platforms. By highlighting thematic trends in the portfolio, you will support strategic construction decisions. Additionally, your involvement in event-driven management scenarios such as collateral substitutions or default events ensures timely responses aligned with governance standards. Your collaborative approach will foster strong relationships across functions and regions as you help develop tools that advance risk measurement capabilities.

  • Provide comprehensive oversight of credit administration and management by ensuring accurate receipt and archiving of transaction information such as financials, compliance certificates, and valuation reports in close collaboration with Credit Management teams.

  • Monitor deal covenants meticulously and escalate issues as needed, either directly or by validating agent calculations alongside Credit Management professionals.

  • Ensure annual BR rating reviews are conducted on loan facilities and collateral to maintain robust risk controls throughout the portfolio.

  • Conduct thorough risk analysis on received information, assessing asset impacts on collateral and financing structures to identify potential vulnerabilities.

  • Monitor Early Warning Indicators (EWI) proactively and escalate concerns promptly to safeguard against emerging risks within transactions.

  • Engage with internal subject matter experts regularly to gather opinions and insights that inform transaction-specific rating reviews not covered by Credit Management.

  • Review GSS portfolio risk comprehensively, including concentration, correlation, and stress testing on key risk drivers to ensure balanced exposure across the business.

  • Evaluate pipeline trades for risk correlation and marginal impact on the existing portfolio, contributing valuable input into portfolio construction strategies.

  • Design, prepare, and circulate detailed transaction- and portfolio-level reporting materials for risk meetings such as Fund Forum and Quarterly Risk Review sessions.

  • Input APAC transaction risk metrics into global reporting systems while highlighting thematic trends that support strategic decision-making at both regional and global levels.

What you bring:

Your proven track record in structured credit products combined with deep expertise in sponsor-backed transactions makes you ideally suited for this Director - Portfolio Risk Manager role. You bring advanced quantitative skills that allow you to interpret intricate financial structures while leveraging customer ratings systems and Early Warning Indicator frameworks for comprehensive analysis. Your experience spans over a decade in second line of defence credit risk or portfolio management roles—particularly within structured credit environments—where fund finance exposure has further honed your abilities. With strong communication skills at your disposal, you excel at presenting complex risk insights clearly to senior leadership teams. Your collaborative nature enables seamless cross-functional engagement across regions within a global organisation.

  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of structured credit products, sponsor-backed transactions, and asset-backed lending practices essential for effective portfolio oversight.

  • Showcase advanced quantitative skills paired with analytical capabilities that enable interpretation of complex financial structures within diverse portfolios.

  • Bring proven experience working with customer ratings systems, Early Warning Indicator frameworks, and portfolio aggregation tools that support robust risk analysis.

  • Exhibit excellent communication skills coupled with stakeholder management abilities that facilitate clear presentation of risk insights to leadership teams and committees.

  • Display capacity for cross-functional collaboration across regions within a global organisation, promoting interdependent teamwork for shared success.

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics or related field; CFA qualification is highly regarded as an additional credential.

  • Possess 10-12+ years of experience in second line of defence credit risk roles or portfolio risk management positions within structured credit environments; fund finance or back-leverage exposure is preferred.

  • Demonstrate familiarity with regulatory requirements governing global risk policies as well as internal governance standards necessary for compliance.

  • Show commitment to developing enhanced analytics methodologies including stress testing techniques that support disciplined risk culture within the business.

  • Illustrate ability to support event-driven scenarios such as collateral substitutions or enforcement actions during default situations.
