Role Overview

The Principal Test Engineer is a senior technical and quality leader accountable for the reliability, performance, and customer readiness of complex lottery systems deployed in live customer environments.

This role combines hands-on testing expertise with incident leadership and strong customer-facing ownership, working closely with global delivery, support teams, and third-party vendors.

Responsibilities

Customer & Incident Leadership

  • Serve as the primary escalation point for customer issues and production incidents, owning investigation, coordination, and resolution.

  • Lead root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

  • Coordinate effectively with global engineering, support, and operations teams across time zones.

  • Provide clear, timely communication to customers during incidents and critical deployments.

System Integration & Delivery

  • Support and validate system integration within customer environments, including third-party and external system interactions.

  • Define, document, and validate end-to-end integration scenarios, including failure and recovery paths.

  • Ensure solution readiness for customer acceptance and production release.

T est Strategy & Execution

  • Define and execute test strategies and plans aligned with scope, risk, schedules, and priorities.

  • Lead functional, integration, and regression testing activities.

  • Ensure full traceability from customer and system requirements to test coverage and results.

  • Continuously improve test processes, quality metrics, and reporting.

Technical & Project Leadership

  • Provide technical quality leadership across projects and maintenance streams.

  • Own end-to-end quality delivery, ensuring timelines and agreed standards are met.

  • Act as a quality authority, constructively challenging decisions that may compromise customer or system quality.

Requirements & Documentation

  • Define, analyze, and document customer, system, and operational requirements.

  • Track requirements through implementation, verification, and acceptance.

  • Maintain accurate, auditable documentation including test plans, reports, defect analysis, and release readiness assessments.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent technical discipline.

  • 6+ years’ experience in software testing, including complex systems and integration testing.

  • Proven technical leadership in software delivery, system integration, or customer support environments.

  • Strong understanding of SDLC, defect management, and production support operations.

  • ISTQB Advanced Level (or equivalent) certification.

  • Fluent written and spoken English.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, especially in production and customer-impacting scenarios.

  • Excellent stakeholder management and customer-facing communication skills.

  • Ability to make sound decisions under pressure and lead incident resolution.
