Role Overview:
In this position, you must have a strong analytic skill to review technical manuals such as but not limited to the 29 CFR 1910 and 1926 OSHA standards, the Manual for Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) regulations, and the INDOT Work Performance Standards. The successful candidate will be required to write basic curriculum for the safety department. The Successful candidate must remain cognizant of the potential impact of complex decisions/recommendations on all employees' safety and health. The successful candidate may be required to do broad interpretational and judgment in the application and implementation of INDOT's various safety programs.
Location:
This position is with INDOT's Vincennes Unit.
Pay Rate:
This position traditionally starts at an hourly rate of $18.00
A Day in the Life:
Must be able to write basic curriculum standards for the safety program using Job Hazard Analysis (JHA's) as well as other written formats.
Provide interactive and effective workplace safety and health training for all district employees for consistent application of INODT's safety programs.
Identify potential workplace safety and health hazards that may result in worker injury.
Assist the District Safety Director with the development and implementation of new and/or updated worker safety and health programs.
Assist in emergency response activities with other state agencies including but not limited to the Indiana State Police and Indiana Department of Homeland Security.
What You'll Need for Success:
Must understand basic curriculum mapping and strong writing skills.
Basic knowledge of state and federal safety and health regulations (OSHA and IMUTCD).
Be willing to travel with reasonable accommodation.
Basic knowledge of the transportation / construction industries.
Ability to provide public speaking and deliver training programs.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all agency employees, contractors, state/federal agencies, and other specialized audiences.
Must be able to communicate effectively.
Proficient with Excel, Word, and Power Point.
Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
Benefits of Employment with the State of Indiana:
This seasonal position does not offer benefits and is limited to 180 working days in an eleven (11) month continuous period.
