This person directly supervises the daily operation and ensures that daily schedules of activity are established and quality standards are maintained. They will also assume all of the manager's responsibilities and authority in manager's absence. This person will work with management and co-workers to instill and foster the value of the Villanova Mission Statement and the Dining Services Mission Statement. Duties and Responsibilities:
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Demonstrates complete understanding of departmental requirements. Monitors daily performance of staff, including the quality of products and service, sanitation, and food handling practices, and also ensures compliance with established standards.
- Accurately inventories the supplies daily and requisitions items needed to meet par levels. Depending on the unit, may have additional ordering responsibilities.
- Assists managers with daily schedules and work assignments. Shifts staff to complete essential duties when need arises. Coordinates work of staff to promote efficiency of operations.
- Trains staff, assists with orientation of new associates, recommends actions necessary for staff discipline, terminations, promotions, and provides input to annual performance.
NONESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Responsible for cash handling procedures, including operating the cash register, cash drawer reconciliation, and deposits at the end of the shift.
- Monitors customer needs and responds to any concerns or questions in a friendly and courteous manner.
- Routinely inspects areas of assigned responsibility and reports all substandard safety and sanitation, security, or equipment conditions to the manager. Consistently monitors standards and makes recommendations for change to managers.
- Performs other duties as assigned (daily/weekly cleaning)-special projects.
Minimum Qualifications:
Formal Education:
- High School diploma required or GED equivalent.
Work Experience:
- 3 years minimum experience in food and/or customer service; combination of post-secondary education/certifications and experience may also be considered.
Specific Job Knowledge:
- Background in food service industry including preparation and production and safety and sanitation
Equipment Knowledge:
- General knowledge of kitchen equipment uch as: slicers, dish machines, ovens, fryers, mixers, knives, etc.
Preferred Qualifications:
Formal Education:
ServSafe Certified.
Work Experience:
5 years experience in food and/or customer service with at least 1 year in institutional food service.
Work Skills:
- Demonstrated organizational skills with excellent written and oral skills
- Ability to work with a diverse work force
- Ability to work in a group
- Must be self-motivated and able to work with general supervision
- Ability to teach and train
- Inventory and ordering skills preferred
Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours:
Tools, Machinery, and Equipment Used:
- Any of the above-mentioned equipment as needed.
Environmental Conditions:
- Exposure to extremes in temperature and cleaning chemicals.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift 10 pounds, up to 30 pounds with assistance.
- Standing and walking for extended periods of time.

Friday through Monday 6:00am -- 5:00pm Off Tues/Wed/Thurs
Valid Driver License required with a good driving record and no traffic violations. Must be able to meet and maintain VU driving privileges as outlined by Villanova's Risk Management's Small Cart policy.
Posting Date:03/31/2026Closing Date (11:59pm ET): Salary Posting Information:
This position falls within hourly grade 12 and the range is $21.92-27.36/hr. The final salary will be determined with consideration of several factors including the selected candidate's qualifications, department budget availability, market data, and internal equity.
