School Registered Nurse (PRN) – Fairfax County Public Schools
We are seeking a compassionate and reliable Registered Nurse (RN) to support Fairfax County Public Schools in a PRN capacity for the remainder of the school year . This role is ideal for nurses who enjoy working with children, thrive in dynamic environments, and are comfortable providing care in both school and community settings.
Position Overview The PRN School RN will provide medical support for students during the school day and on scheduled field trips. Many upcoming field trips require a nurse to accompany students with specific medical needs to ensure safe participation. Additional opportunities to support school-based health needs may be available as they arise.
Key Responsibilities
Accompany students on field trips to provide medical oversight and emergency response as needed
Administer medications and treatments in accordance with student health plans
Monitor and support students with chronic health conditions
Communicate effectively with school staff, parents, and the health services team
Maintain accurate documentation of care provided
Step into additional PRN assignments within the school setting when available
Qualifications
Active RN license in the state of Virginia
Current CPR/BLS certification
Experience working with pediatric populations preferred
Strong communication, assessment, and critical-thinking skills
Ability to work independently and adapt to changing environments
Schedule & Availability
PRN, based on scheduled field trips and school needs
Assignments may vary in length depending on trip duration and student requirements
