Your Opportunity
Stantec is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to play a key role in the delivery of complex Ports and Marine Terminals projects across British Columbia. The role offers the unique opportunity to collaborate with an award-winning team of planners, engineers and technologists on multiple projects for a range of public and private sector clients such as container terminals, oil and gas facilities, dry bulk ports, marinas, ferries, coastal structures, wharves, jetties, naval facilities and cruise terminals.
You will interface directly with clients, stakeholders, contractors and suppliers to effectively manage project deliverables, with a focus on quality and team collaboration. Beyond technical skills, this role requires the ability to build and nurture existing Stantec client relationships as well as acquire new client relationships within the Ports and Marine Terminals sector.
Your Key Responsibilities
Lead and execute design work for projects at all stages including planning, preliminary design, detailed structural design, engineering calculations, tender/construction support and maintenance on marine structures related projects.
Lead the preparation of engineering project documents including drawings, reports, specifications and cost estimates, client contact and communication pertaining to specific projects.
Lead client/contractor/stakeholder meetings to review project and proposal milestones, confirm resource needs, review client expectations, facilitate inter-office work collaboration, and plan team building activities while identifying technical problems and initiating appropriate corrective actions.
Supports the growth of our business with a focus on the ports and marine terminals discipline in British Columbia, including proposal writing, business development activities, team coordination, and assisting project managers / project engineers.
Takes a proactive role in the mentoring of Engineers in Training and Structural Engineers, providing expert level guidance and constructive feedback to aid in the development of their technical design and professional consulting skills.
Some travel to project sites may be required from time to time.
Performs other duties of a similar nature and senior level as required.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Demonstrated experience in the execution of Port and Marine Terminals projects working with multidiscipline teams on a wide variety of port projects including a variety of marine structures.
Requisite knowledge, interpretation, and application of structural design codes, standards, and applicable port design standards and guidelines.
Excellent organizational skills, risk management, project management, and ability to solve complex problems using sound professional judgment, creativity and innovation.
Excellent time-management skills with a thorough understanding of task assignment and scheduling, budgeting and structuring efficient uses of time and resources.
Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills to effectively discuss project issues with clients, reviewing agencies, junior staff, and other stakeholders are essential.
Expert level knowledge of codes, legal and design requirements in relevant jurisdictions and developing jurisdictional experience and contacts.
Strong computer skills and literacy in scheduling, technical writing, presentation, and other software including MS Power Point, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Project.
Expert level proficiency in relevant design software including SAP2000, AutoCAD, Civil3D, GIS, MathCAD, and MS Excel Macros.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Structural Engineering or related field.
Must be a Licensed Professional Engineer with registration in British Columbia.
Minimum of 14 years of experience in port and marine terminals design working with multidiscipline teams on a wide variety of Ports & Marine Terminals projects including a variety of marine structures.
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay Range:
• Locations Outside of Lower Mainland - BC & Various locations in Ontario-$128,600.00 - $192,900.00 Annually
• Locations in Lower Mainland - BC, GTA & Ottawa Ontario-$136,300.00 - $204,500.00 Annually
Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
