    Job Description

    Title:School Psychologist -Intermediate School (2026-2027 School Year)

    Qualifications:

  • Effective communication and problem solving skills

  • Ability to work collaboratively in an educational setting

  • Certified by the NYS Education Department as a School Psychologist

  • Good knowledge of the principles, techniques, and practices of school psychology

  • Ability to understand procedures and functions in a school system with regard to special education

  • Working knowledge of community resources applicable to school psychology

  • Be able to work and communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, outside agencies, and other groups.

  • Ability to evaluate, plan, and execute treatments

    Responsibilities:Shall include but are not limited to the following:

  • Attend meetings as needed

  • General School Psychologist assignments

  • Counsels students with emotional and/or educational disabilities in grades K-12

  • Understands and updates students\' Individualized Education Plans (IEP) and/or 504 Plans

  • Makes recommendations on pupil placement

  • Refers appropriate cases to other school specialists as needed (i.e. speech/language, reading, hearing and vision, occupational therapy)

  • Prepares written reports of all psychological evaluations and keeps up-to-date files on all referrals

  • Administers individual psychological tests for the evaluation of intelligence, learning styles, and personality factors affecting school adjustment

  • Conducts follow-up conferences with appropriate personnel to interpret test results and make recommendations; serves as consultant to administrators and other school personnel.

  • Serves as a member of building pupil personnel services team and the District Committee on Special Education

  • Participates in and/or leads IEP and 504 Plan meetings including completing and discussing evaluations, planning, and making recommendations

  • Serves as primary resource person for Committee on Special Education; provides data for recommendations of special education placements

  • Serves as case manager for students referred to Committee on Special Education

  • Confers with parents as necessary and makes recommendations to them with regard to services for children

  • Advises and consults with parents of students being considered for placement in special education programs; monitors progress of pupils in special class placements

  • Interprets district\'s psychological services to teachers and parents

  • Acts as liaison between school and community health and social welfare agencies

  • Completes various reports on students with disabilities as required by local, state, and federal governmental agencies

  • Strives to maintain and improve professional competence through participation in area conferences, workshops, etc., and membership on district committees and in professional organizations

  • Participates in MTSS problem solving meetings and utilize data-driven insights to implement effective instructional and behavioral interventions that support student success.

  • Other assigned duties and/or responsibilities which may be deemed appropriate by the supervisors.

  • Maintain Data Security as applicable.

  • Maintain confidentiality with staff, students, and family information.

    Reports to:Building Principal and Assistant Superintendent for Pupil Services

    Salary: Minimum starting salary $56,020 (negotiable based on experience) as per the contract between Victor Central Schools and the VTA Unit
