BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems is currently looking for “dynamic, results driven” individual to join as FMEA Coordinator at our production plant in Viana, Portugal.

Responsibilities:

DFMEA Coordination – SOP Phase

  • Coordinates Design FMEA (DFMEA) activities during the SOP phase in close collaboration with Product Engineering teams.

  • Facilitates DFMEA workshops, ensuring correct functional analysis, failure mode definition, and risk prioritization.

  • Ensures alignment between DFMEA outputs, design records, and change management processes.

  • Tracks actions to closure and ensures lessons learned are captured and reused across platforms and projects.

  • PFMEA Coordination – Launch & SOP Phases:

  • Leads Process FMEA (PFMEA) activities during Launch phases in cooperation with Manufacturing and Testing Engineers.

  • Maintains PFMEA robustness during SOP through regular reviews, updates based on process changes, quality issues, and performance feedback.

  • Ensures consistency between PFMEA, Control Plans, work instructions, and inspection strategies.

Reverse FMEA – SOP Phase:

  • Coordinates Reverse FMEA activities during SOP with cross‑functional teams including Engineering, Quality, Operations, and Industrial Engineering.

  • Facilitates on‑site and process‑based analysis to validate PFMEA assumptions against real production conditions.

  • Identifies gaps between documented risks and actual process execution and ensures corrective actions are defined and implemented.

Equipment FMEA

  • Leads and supports Equipment FMEA activities together with Engineering and Maintenance teams.

  • Ensures systematic identification of equipment failure modes, impacts on product and process, and definition of preventive measures.

  • Supports alignment between Equipment FMEA outputs, preventive maintenance plans, spare parts strategies, and equipment upgrades.

Methodology, Governance & Continuous Improvement

  • Acts as the FMEA methodology expert, ensuring compliance with internal standards and AIAG/VDA guidelines.

  • Defines and maintains FMEA guidelines, templates, and best practices.

  • Monitors FMEA quality, maturity, and action closure effectiveness across all active analyses.

  • Provides coaching and training to team members on FMEA principles and best practices.

Requirements & Competencies

  • Engineering degree in Mechanical, Mechatronic, Industrial, or similar discipline.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in roles involving FMEA development, coordination, or quality/process engineering.

  • Proven experience with DFMEA, PFMEA, and cross‑functional risk analysis activities in industrial environments.

  • Strong knowledge of AIAG/VDA FMEA methodology and risk prioritization concepts.

  • Solid understanding of product design processes, manufacturing operations, testing, and equipment behavior.

  • Experience linking FMEA outputs to Control Plans, process documentation, and quality systems.

  • Proficiency in Excel and FMEA management tools (where applicable).

  • Strong facilitation and moderation skills, capable of leading structured workshops with multidisciplinary teams.

  • Analytical mindset with high attention to detail and risk awareness.

  • Ability to challenge assumptions while maintaining constructive collaboration.
