The Vetticatt lab research program utilizes a mechanism-based approach to the rational design of novel reactions in asymmetric organocatalysis (enantioselective catalysis by small organic molecules). Selectivity in asymmetric organocatalysis is often governed by subtle catalyst-substrate interactions. Vetticatt's research group investigates these interactions using a combined experimental and theoretical approach. They employ physical organic probes, such as experimental/theoretical kinetic isotope effects and transition state analysis, as design tools in their studies. They are especially interested in understanding the role of non-conventional hydrogen-bonding interactions such as CH---O interactions in determining selectivity in organocatalysis.
Typical duties and responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):
Conduct research in this area and communicate the results through conference presentations and publish the results in reputable journals.
Write manuscripts and aid in grant writing tasks.
Train undergraduate and graduate students in the general area of computational organic chemistry.
Write, edit, and maintain the code for running computations.
Job Requirements:
The candidate must hold a PhD degree in any area of chemistry
Minimum of one year of post-doctoral experience in computational chemistry
Expertise in computational chemistry and a strong understanding of organic transformations
Strong background in utilizing ab initio and DFT methods and an understanding of their limitations
Additional Information:
Salary: $55,000 annual, full-time position.
