The Student Association of Binghamton University, Inc. (SA) is a $4.5M+ independent 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation. We are seeking an Assistant Business Manager to serve as a key operational leader within the SA.

This dual-focus role is designed for a versatile professional who can immediately manage the organization's critical business operations-including New York State sales tax filings, payment technology and logistics-while undergoing structured mentorship in non-profit fund accounting, audit preparation, and risk management. The successful candidate will assist the Senior Finance & Business Manager, ensuring the long-term financial integrity of the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Operations & Tax Compliance

  • Sales Tax Administration: Assume full authority for the collection, reporting, and filing of quarterly New York State Sales Tax returns for the SA's business units.

  • Revenue & Ticketing Management: Serve as the primary administrator for the Zeffy and BingTickets platforms. Manage event builds, reconcile ticket revenue against bank deposits, and troubleshoot user issues for student organizations.

  • Expenditure Support: Support with the financial vouchers and purchase order process as needed.

  • Inventory & Purchasing: Oversee central procurement for SA business units, maintaining optimal inventory levels and managing vendor relationships.

Internal Policy & Risk Management

  • Policy Interpretation: Serve as an advisor on the Student Association Management Policies, providing guidance to the SA Executive Board to ensure 501(c)(3) compliance.

  • Policy Development: Assist the Senior Finance & Business Manager/Vice President for Finance in reviewing and updating internal financial controls and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to mitigate organizational risk.

Audit Support & Strategic Finance

  • Audit Preparation: Partner with the Senior Finance & Business Manager to prepare work papers, journal entries, and balance sheets for the annual independent audit.

  • General Ledger Maintenance: Support monthly bank reconciliations for corporate bank accounts and execute adjusting journal entries to ensure data integrity.

  • Succession Planning: actively participate in "knowledge transfer" sessions to master the SA's legacy MIS financial systems and internal control frameworks.

Risk Management & HR Administration

  • Policy Compliance: Review student organization contracts and spending plans to ensure alignment with 501(c)(3) regulations and SUNY guidelines.

  • Payroll: Assist in the hiring and onboarding pipeline for student employees, verifying I-9 documentation and validating payroll data before final processing.

    Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field with 1-3 year of experience in finance, bookkeeping, office management, or business operations or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP).

  • Strong ability to interpret complex policies and communicate them to a student audience.

  • High attention to detail with a "compliance-first" mindset.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience with New York State Sales Tax filing and compliance is highly preferred.

  • Experience with digital ticketing platforms (Eventbrite, Zeffy) and financial software is a strong plus.

    Additional Information:

Salary: $58,000 - $63,000 annually.
