Black & McDonald Limited FMO Supervisor in Vernon, British Columbia

Black & McDonald is seeking a skilled and motivated Facilities Management & Operations (FMO) Supervisor to lead and support maintenance operations across military and other managed facilities. This role is ideal for a hands-on supervisor who brings strong technical expertise, sound judgment, and a commitment to safety and service excellence. The FMO Supervisor position will be based at the Vernon Military Cadet Camp client site located in Vernon, BC.
A key component of this role includes conducting preventive maintenance inspections on mechanical, electrical, heating, and other equipment, and completing minor plumbing and repairs within their scope of expertise. The Supervisor must consistently uphold Black & McDonald's high safety and quality standards while ensuring the same from all staff and subcontractors. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Supervise and coordinate activities of staff and subcontractors
Coordinate and oversee maintenance and construction activities
Plan and execute work in accordance with Black & McDonald corporate safety policy and provincial regulations
Perform facility-related repairs or construction tasks as requested by the Project Manager
Establish methods to meet work schedules and coordinate work with other subcontractors or departments
Prepare project estimates
Maintain a safe, respectful work environment
Arrange and support appropriate training for workers
Recommend personnel actions, including hiring and promotions
Administer work orders from start to completion
Review the accuracy of work order content prior to invoicing
Prepare work progress and safety reports as requested
Conduct preventive maintenance inspections on mechanical, electrical, heating, and plumbing systems
Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and sketches to determine requirements
Requisition of materials and supplies
Resolve work-related issues and recommend process improvements
Ensure all team members and subcontractors adhere to Black & McDonald safety standards

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Completion of secondary school required
4th Class Power Engineering certification
WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- 3-5 years of relevant field and supervisory experience
SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to obtain Federal Security Clearance (required for work on military facilities)
Basic computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel)
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Excellent problem-solving abilities
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting/moving heavy materials
Skilled in using various hand and power tools
Strong supervisory, negotiation, planning, and scheduling abilities
Formal training in supervisory responsibilities
Valid Class 5 or higher BC driver's licence with a clean driver's abstract
Ability to travel to various facilities within the BC Interior as needed
The expected salary range for this role is between $80,000-$90,000. The starting salary will be based on several factors such as the successful candidate's qualifications, including but not limited to education and experience. Salary is one component of Black & McDonald's total rewards package. Total rewards vary by position and may include additional offerings such as group insurance benefits, pension plan, annual performance bonus, career development programs, and other HR programs.
